Paul Pokorski returns to tackle Plymouth 360 Sprint Car challenge

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 29, 2021 –After nearly six weeks out of the driver’s seat in Plymouth Dirt Track Racing action while helping his son, Alex, during his second year behind the wheel of a 360 Sprint Car, 29th-year veteran Paul Pokorski was back in the saddle of the No. 4 Pokorski Motorsports 360 Sprint Car at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. onFriday, June 25 for a special Friday evening Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car event.

Pokorski was one of 29 PDTR 360 Sprint Car entrants to check in for the ninth racing program of the 2021 season at The Plymouth Dirt Track.

The 2014 Midwest Sprint Car Association Masters Series champion started fifth in the first 10-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race and found the going tough on an ultra-fast and narrow track surface. Pokorski fellback to seventh on the opening lap and held that position throughout the duration of the race.

Pokorski then rolled off ninth in the 15-lap 360 B main needing to finish in the top six to advance to the evening’s 25-lap A main.

A strong start vaulted Pokorski past Scott Conger and Dylan Winkel into seventh on the opening lap. On lap 3, the West Bend driver ducked under Katelyn Krebsbach to take over the sixth spot.

Over the final five laps, Pokorski moved in to pressure Chris Clayton for the fifth spot. However, he was unable to pull off the pass and wound up sixth to gain a berth in the main event field.

Pokorski rolled off 22nd in the 25-lap PDTR 360 main event and worked his way up to 19th on lap 6 before moving past Bill Taylor to claim 18th on lap 10.

Two laps later, leader Travis Arenz put Pokorski a lap down before the red flag appeared on lap 14 for a flip involving Adam Miller.

Per PDTR/MSA rules, Pokorski fell in line behind the leading car of Arenz along with four other lapped cars on the ensuing restart. Pokorski moved up to 16th by passing Austin Hartmann shortly after the restart. However, Preston Ruh powered around Pokorski a few laps later to drop him to 17th in the running order, which is where he finished in a race won by Travis Arenz.

“The car was definitely a handful early on,” Pokorski said. “I made a mistake on some set up stuff that we caught after the heat race and corrected. The car was much better in the B and I was pretty happy with the way that went.

“The car was much better than I was in the feature,” he said. “For some reason, I wasn’t trusting it to do what Iwanted or expected, so I wasn’t driving it the way I should have. Once a started to trust the car, which was about the last 10 laps, it was actually pretty good. I was pretty disappointed with my performance in the car. I guess I felt rusty.”

Alex Pokorski was scheduled to compete in the No. 4 Pokorski Motorsports car in a Midwest Sprint Car Association event at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis. on Saturday, June 26, which was cancelled due to rain.

The Pokorski Motorsports team is scheduled to return to action this Thursday, July 1 for a special all-Sprint Car event featuring the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Cars at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. to coincide with the NASCAR Cup Series weekend at nearby Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis.

Driving duties for the evening have yet to be decided depending on work schedules. Updates will be posted on the Pokorski Motorsports Facebook page.

Pit gates open at 1 p.m. with spectator gates opening at 4 p.m. Hot laps will follow at 6 p.m. with racing slated to begin at 7 p.m.
