Konnor Wilinski captures the IMCA Modified Feature
Tyler Sobiescyck, Konnor Wilinski, Nick Anvelink, Travis Van Straten and Tanner Westphal add to their trophy cases.
The Sport Mods led feature action on the track and it didn’t take long
Wudstrack to grab the lead from pole sitter Forrest Kernan.
Wudstrack would pace the field early as Jason Jachgave chase in
second. Three and four wide battles raged on further back as Tyler
Sobiescyck began to fight his way to the front. Wudstrack would
continue a strong run building up a nece lead over Jachas the halfway
point neared. Sobiescyck would get to the back bumper of Jach as the
field began to space itself out. While Wudstrack was hunting the
checkered flag he found a yellow with just a few laps remaining. The
caution was all Sobiescyck would need to close the gap on the top two.
On the restart, Sobiescyck snuck past Jach and then engaged in a side
by side battle with Wudstrac for the top spot. Sobiescyck would win
that battle and cruise to another feature win. Wudstrackwould see
second wrestled away by Jayden Schmidt and settle for third with Jach
grabbing fourth.
The IMCA Modifieds saw Shawn Frelich and Nick Holtger on the front row
to start their feature, however, the front row was not the place to
be. Two cautions before the first lap was complete would end the night
for the top two. Marcus Yarie was also caught up and his night ended
before it started. When the race finally got going, Mike Schmidt would
grab the early lead with Brekken Klienschmidt giving chase. Further
back Jordan Bartz was working the high side moving into the top five.
Kleinschmidt would grab the lead moving past Schmidt on the high side
as well. Bartz would follow suit and grab second. Andy Karl would pull
to Schmidt’s back bumper in the fourth spot as the leaders built an
advantage. Konnor Wilinski, taking note of the high side advantage,
jumped to third. A lap nine restart would see the top three break away
only to be slowed by another yellow flag. Wilinskiwould grab second
on the ensuing restart as Kleinschmidt continued to lead. Wilinski
would use the top and bottom of the track to eventually catch the
Kleinschmidt machine and then make the pass for the top spot. Wilinski
would survive another caution and drive to victory despite a valiant
effort from Kleinschmidt. Jerry Wilinski would make things interesting
late after an early race tire issue to take third. Bartzwould ride
home fourth.
The Late Models saw Todd Frank jump to the early advantage in their
feature event with Butch Theil settling in second. Perennial front
runner Nick Anvelink would slice his way to second by lap four and
give chase to Frank. Meanwhile, Frank worked to build a sizable
cushion between himself and the hard charging Anvelink. Aaron
Wickersheim would sit third with Tom Naeyaert in fourth as laps flew
by. Anvelink would slowly eat into the Frank lead and get to his back
bumper near the halfway point. Anvelink would eventually catch Frank
and power past on the low side as the two caught lap traffic. Frank
would fight back on the high side to regain the lead a lap later and
look to build his lead back. Anvelink would again use the low side
through corners one and two to get by Frank. This time he would not
give up the top spot, Anvelink grabbed another checkered flag. Frank
would settle in second with Ron Berna grabbing third. Naeyaert would
complete the top four.
The IMCA Stock Cars saw Vern Stedjee, trying to join his son with a
trip to Victory lane this year, grab the early lead. Kyle Frederick
and Dan Michonski would move their way to the top three and give
chase. Frederick would use the low side to chop into the Stedjee lead
as Travis Van Straten joined the fray up front. Michonski, Frederick,
Van Straten and Chucky Forstner would put on a spirited battle for the
runner up spot. Caution would settle things down for a lap or two but
also bring Stedjee back to the field. Frederick would use the restart
to get to the side of Stedjee but not be able to complete the pass.
Frederick would not be denied though as he went to the outside a few
laps later. Again, Stedjee would be up to the battle and keep his top
spot. Forstner would join the battle a lap or two later and the top
three eventually came out of corner four three wide. Forstner would
survive that moment and grab the lead with Stedjeeback to second. Van
Straten would get by Frederick for third as Forstnerseparated himself
from the field. As caution flew, smoke could be seen from the Forstner
machine, Van Straten would seize on that opportunity grabbing the top
spot on the restart. Trent Nolan would grab second with three laps
remaining. Van Straten would take the feature win with Nolan second,
Stedjee would finish third and Frederick fourth as Forstner’s
mechanical issues ended his run.
The Mighty Four’s would be a war of attrition as Tanner Westphal
picked up another feature win Brad Wedde would take home the second
spot with Carl King and Alexis Michonski fourth.
