Raab, Stedjee get first career feature wins

By Dave Buss

The future of racing was on display as Go Karters were honored in
prerace ceremonies at the Shawano Speedway. Former karter, Marcus
Yarie, would grab a feature win along with Zachary Raab, Brett
Swedberg, Dylan Stedjee and Jason Stueck joined him with Feature wins.

The IMCA Sport Mods took the green flag first for their feature event
with Andrew Engels and Zachary Raab leading them to the line. Raab
would put his car into the top spot on lap one and begin to leave the
pack in the rearview mirror. Kevin Bethke would charge to the second
spot and begin his attempt at running down the leader. By lap five
Raab was leading by nearly five seconds. Bethke would maintain the
runner up spot with Dylon Waldvogel moving into third. Caution would
eliminate the huge advantage of Raab on lap eight. The restart would
see Waldvogel jump to the second spot as Raab again powered away.
Jeffery Teske would move his machine to fourth from eleventh as the
half way point hit the field. A caution would set up another restart
and give Waldvogel and Tyler Sobiesczyk the break they needed as they
once again closed on the leader. Raab would just be too strong as he
drove off once again and grabbed the win. Sobiesczykwould grab the
second spot with Teske third. Waldvogel would hold off Jayden Schmidt
for fourth.

The IMCA Modifieds had seven’s wild on their front row with 07 of Mike
Schmidt and the 7H of Marcus Hoeppner setting the pace early. Brekken
Kleinschmidt would grab the top spot on lap three with Hoeppner
sliding back to second. Kleinschmidt would see his lead evaporate when
his dad, Kevin Kleinschmidt spun bringing out the yellow flag on lap
six. On the restart, Lance Arneson would choose the high side in the
second row, while Kleinschmidt would try to hold off Arneson, Konnor
Wilinski would try unsuccessfully to sneak by on the low side.
Kleinschmidt would be up to the challenge and begin to rebuild his
lead. Caution would again eliminate his lead just before the half way
point. Jerry Wilinski would find himself in the second spot on the
restart and jump to lead on the ensuing lap. Kleinschmidt would not
let Wilinski escape as he moved into the tire tracks of the leader.
With seven laps remaining Marcus Yarie would move into contention as
he moved to the third spot. Yarie grab the lead out of corner four
with five laps remaining. Yellow would set up a five lap shoot out as
he brought the field back to green. Yarie would use his experience
gained from his days in go karts to drive to the win. Jerry Wilinski
and Kleinschmidt putting on a great battle for second with
Kleinschmidt taking the spot. Jerry Muenster would show that he still
has it with a fourth-place finish.

Hall of Famer Tom Naeyaert brought the Late Model to the line in their
feature event. Todd Frank would challenge Naeyaert in the early laps
as Brett Swedberg held the third spot. Nick Anvelinkcoming off a
feature win last week would charge forward and grab third by lap five.
Frank would spin to bring out the caution and reset the field.
Naeyaert would lead Swedberg and Anvelink lining up behind him. The
green flag would not be out long as another caution slowed the field
two laps later with Naeyaert still showing the way. This time he would
have Swedberg and Troy Springborn behind him. Swedberg would slide
past Naeyaert on lap nine and begin to build his lead. Swedberg would
dominate the second half of the race to pick up the win. Anvelink
would take second with Naeyaert third and Springbornfourth.

The IMCA Stock cars would roll to the track looking to carry on their
weekly feature that just about anyone could win if they survive the
action for twenty laps. Dylan Stedjee would lead Chummy Arneson for
early few laps until caution flew bring the rest of the field to their
back bumpers. Chucky Forstner would join the battle for the top spot
on lap five with Stedjee continuing to hold the top spot. As the race
neared the half way point, Forstner began to cut into the Stedjee
lead. Meanwhile, Kyle Frederick would settle into third with Tom Riehl
sitting fourth. Forstner would ride in the tire tracks of Stedjee for
the second half of the event just waiting for Stedjee to bobble.
Mechanical problems would end the night for Arneson. Stedjee would
maintain the top spot picking up his first feature win of the year.
Forstner took second with Frederick third and Tom Riehl fourth.

The Mighty 4’s conclude the night with Alexis Michonskijumping to
the lead with Bo White and Lucas Hacker giving chase. Brad Wedde would
make it a three wide battle for second and then for the lead. Hacker
would come out with the lead on lap 5. Hacker would see Jason Stueck
get by for the lead on lap 10. Stueck would grab the win with Hacker
second, William Hoefs third.
