Springborn goes back to back, four other new winners to Victory Lane

Shawano, WI – Troy Springborn took a front row starting spot right back to victory lane on Saturday night with Trent Nolan in the IMCA Stock Cars, Jayden Schmidt in the IMCA Mods, Tyler Sobiesczyk in the IMCA Sport Mods, and Tanner Westphal in the Mighty 4s all getting a taste of victory lane for the first time this season. 86 cars signed in to the historic half mile on a beautiful, clear blue-sky night for racing. Charlie’s County Market helped out for the night and helped to celebrate the 2021 track top honors right after the hot action on the track concluded.

The IMCA Stock Cars took to the track for the first A main of the night. The action division did not disappoint once again. Father-son duo of Vern and Dylan Stedjee started on the front row for the 20-lap main event. Vern Stedjee would get the jump on the start and lead the first 15 circuits. A late caution would tighten the field as the high line was starting to come in. Shawano’s Trent Nolan would use that groove to gain the advantage after the restart and go on to take the checkered flag.

A rough start for the IMCA Sport Mods ended in a time shortened feature of just 10 laps. Hollie Welch held the lead for the start of the event, but would finish in the top 10 on the night. Kevin Bethke led a number of the mid race circuits, but 11thstarting Sobiesczyk was not going to be denied with his new mount, debuting for the first time in 2022. Bethke would settle for a 4th place finish, with Matthew Radtke and Max Oreskovichmoving into the top four.

The Late Models rolled off 3rd on the night. A solid 14 car field would see Lucas Postl and Troy Springborn on the front row. The 20 lap feature would see only one yellow flag grace the sky on lap 13 with a Kyle Raddant spin in turn 2. Springborn’sstraight away lead would evaporate and see the hard charging Postl right on his heels. Ron Berna and Nick Anvelink would be in rows 2 and 3 behind the leader and would not be a factor down the stretch. Springborn took off from the field and notched his second win in as many attempts at the Shawano Speedway.

The 14 car IMCA Modified main was next. Jayden Schmidt and Wausau’s Kevin Feck started on the front row for the 20 lapper. Schmidt would jump to the leader with a fresh power plant under the hood and never look back, leading all 20 laps. Feck would give chase, but it was Shawano’s Jordan Bartz claiming the second spot. A late rally from Brekken Kleinschmidt would mount a change and swipe 4th away from the veteran Jerry Muenster.

The final feature brought on the Mighty 4s for what was one of the most exciting of the night. The 513 of Josh Slewinski started up front but it was Carl King that would race his way to the front for 7 laps. Defending 2021 track champ, Tanner Westphal, would work his way through the field and take over the top spot and drive his way back to victory lane for the first time this season. Challenges all through the top 8 provided a stellar finish in the Mighty 4s once again.

Racing continues on Saturday, May 14th at Shawano Speedway with Fan Appreciation Night and $1,000 payout on the line for the modified division.
