Fireworks, Heat, and Hard Racing at the Valley

Eagle Valley Speedway, July 05, 2020; The Eagle Valley Speedway raced on Sunday night to accommodate other specials being held over the holiday weekend in Wisconsin.  The evening was capped with a fireworks display.  Winners included Michael Truscott, Tommy Richards, Shane Halopka, Danny Richards, Rob Grabon, and Jake Halterman.WISSOTA Modified heat wins were snagged by Jake Smith and Mike Knopps as the feature time polesitter, Curt Myers took the early lead in the finale.  Mike Anderson moved to second but a spin involving Cooper Berlin and Zach Gibson slowed the pace early.  On the restart, Anderson moved to the lead and quickly stretched an advantage down the backstretch; however, a second spin involving Berlin and Gibson drew the caution and ended Gibson’s night on the two-caution rule.In a nearly identical move, Anderson again blasted into the lead and stretched his advantage on the high side. But this time it was Berlin spinning on his own drawing the yellow flag.  On the next restart attempt, Myers moved up to halt Anderson’s attack as he was forced to move to the middle groove as Michael Truscott worked down low to make it three deep for the lead.  It was Myers claiming the point while Truscott continued to blast the low groove and Anderson chased the two from behind. For the remainder of the race, Myers raced high and Truscott low as they drove side by side or with slight advantages but never taking full control themselves.  It was a terrific race up front as they took the white flag door to door with Anderson in their shadow waiting for a mistake to capitalize upon.  Truscott had the better last lap as he moved out front and took the checkered as Myers was close by in second.  Anderson settled for third over Dave Cain and Nick Koehler. The WISSOTA Super Stocks saw Kody Koski win his heat and Tommy Richards sweep the night with heat and feature wins.  It was Tony Falkner looking strong out front as he moved from outside of the front row into the lead.  Curt Myers moved into second and chased Falkner, but Falkner was too tough and stayed out front impressively.  Richards could be seen working his way into third from his eighth starting position on lap five.  He moved door to door with Myers and while working lap nine, it was Myers with the spin drawing a yellow flag. Now holding off Tommy Richards once would be a tall order for anyone, but there were three consecutive restarts that saw Richards overtake the lead from Falkner only to see a caution before the lap was completed.  The fourth was a charm as Richards again overtook the lead and drove away to the win over the remaining laps.  Myers worked his way back through the crowd and passed Falkner for second on lap 17.  It was Richards by a large margin over Myers, Falkner, Doug Koski, and Steve Hager in fifth. The WISSOTA Midwest Modified heats were won by Chad Selk and Zach Benson as it was Shane Halopka winning the feature from eighth.  Early on it was Kent Baxter leading from the pin as Josh Smith moved from third to challenge for the point.  Smith inched his way into the lead and began to move away from the crowd.  Soon however, Halopka could be seen as he worked his way into third.  He overtook Baxter, ran down the leader in lapped traffic, and moved out front.  Once there, he drove to a decent advantage all the way to the checkered flag.  It was Smith in a strong second as just impressively, Baxter finished a close third. Steve Haas and Zach Benson rounded out the top five. The WISSOTA Street Stock heats were won by Parker Anderson and the red-hot Cody Kummer.  The feature was led early by Cole Richards and after a few quick cautions his father, Danny Richards made an appearance for a photo opportunity as the two raced door to door for the lead.  It was Danny Richards to first as Cody Kummer raced up and overtook second.  Later in the race, Dalton Hazelton, who looked very good, moved into third as the three raced to the checkered flag, followed by Cole Richards and a strong run for William Fisher who finished fifth. The Pure Stock heats were won by George Richards and Brent Mindock.  At feature time, Mindock took the early lead as he was chased by Ryan Olson and Richards moved into third.  A lap five spin saw Travis Hazelton and Dustin Holub go to the work area and restart in the rear.  It was Mindock on the restart as Olson and Richards battled for second.  The three cars moved three wide for the win as the white flag flew.  The final lap saw an exciting battle as Rob Grabon moved in to join them.  It was Grabon yanking away the win coming to the checkers as he moved from fourth to first in the final circuit.  The strong running rookie, Olson was able to grab second over Richards and Mindock’s very fine run ended in fourth.  Travis Hazelton rebounded from his trip to the work area to be scored in fifth at the line. The EVS Hornets saw Jake Halterman sweep the night.  Halterman took the early lead after starting second but Danny Halterman snagged first away after an early restart.  On lap six, Jake retook the lead and Brandon Gleiter moved into second a lap later.  Derek Krumrie overtook third coming to the white flag as Danny Halterman was forced to settle for fourth ahead of Jason Bauer. The Eagle Valley Speedway returns on Friday, July 10, 2020.  All six classes will be in action with the EVS Hornets, WISSOTA Pure Stock, WISSOTA Street Stock, WISSOTA Midwest Mods, WISSOTA Super Stock, and WISSOTA Modifieds.WISSOTA Modified Feature (20 Laps): 1. 22T-Michael Truscott[5]; 2. 1M-Curt Myers[1]; 3. 57-Mike Anderson[3]; 4. 2C-Dave Cain[8]; 5. 13-Nick Koehler[6]; 6. 21-Jake Smith[4]; 7. 93-Mike Knopps[7]; 8. 11-Sam Fankhauser[2]; 9. 8-Dakota Smith[10]; 10.
