World of Outlaws Late Model Series Visits Beaver Dam Raceway on August 4
BEAVER DAM, Wisc. — (July 28, 2020) — The World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Models Series is coming to Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin on Tuesday, August 4. The Dirt Kings Late Model Tour will be supporting the event, with a strong contingent of local and regional drivers expected to join the national touring stars.
The event will mark the series’ first visit to the high-banked, third-mile since 2009 and the third-ever race for the series at the Beaver Dam. Dennis Erb Jr., who is following the series full-time again in 2020 won the inaugural World of Outlaws Late Model Series event at Beaver Dam Raceway in 2007. Jason Feger won in the series return in 2009, which marked his first-career Outlaws triumph.
Following the series this season is another solid lineup, led by reigning series champion Brandon Sheppard, who has 10 wins this season and holds a convincing lead in the series standings as he chases his second straight and third overall Outlaws title. Sheppard, who hails from Illinois, has finished in the top-10 in all but one of the 25 races thus far in 2020, with 21 of those finishes being top-five performances.
Ricky Weiss, the defending Rookie of the Year, is second in points, with a pair of wins. The Canadian has 20 top-10 finishes, of which 14 are top-five showings.
Darrell Lanigan, a three-time series champion, is currently third in points. The veteran driver has one win to go along with 18 top-10 finishes in 25 races.
Cade Dillard, one of the rising stars of the sport, has two wins already in 2020, including taking the $30,000 Firecracker 100 at Lernerville Speedway, as well as a $15,000 triumph at Vado Speedway Park in New Mexico. The Louisiana native has 16 top-10 finishes and rides fourth in the standings.
Chase Junghans rounds out the current top-five in series points. The driver from Manhattan, Kansas, has 19 top-10 finishes, with four of those being top-five runs.
Erb Jr. sits sixth in points, with 13 top-10 finishes of which six are top-five performances.
Scott Bloomquist, a past series champion and Hall of Famer, returned to the World of Outlaws tour this season. The legendary driver is seventh in points and has 13 top-10 finishes in the first 25 races of the season.
Ashton Winger, the leading contender for the Rookie of the Year Award, earned his first-career World of Outlaws win earlier this season at Cedar Lake Speedway on the Western border of Wisconsin. The young driver has 12 top-10 finishes, with four of those being top-five showings.
Veteran driver Boom Briggs is back on the Outlaws circuit this season. The Pennsylvanian has one top-10 finish. Brent Larson, who hails from Minnesota, rounds out the current top-10 in the standings as he looks for his first top-10 run of the season.
One of the local drivers expected to challenge the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series stars is Mitch McGrath, who is a past winner at Beaver Dam in a Modified. Also expected, from the Dirt Kings Late Model Tour are Brett Swedberg, Ron Berna, Justin Richie, Troy Springborn, Justin Reed, Gunner Frank, Jake Timm, Turk Letizia, Mark Rose and Taylor Scheffler, among others.
