Walter, Torque Racing display resiliency in IRA twinbill
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 28, 2021 – An up-and-down weekend of Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series action greeted Josh Walter and the Torque Racing as the team returned to action after a 22-day mid-season break at Outagamie Speedway Powered by EWSC Racing in Seymour, Wis. on Friday, July 23 and Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Saturday, July 24.
Walter kicked off the first night of the IRA double dip by ripping off the fifth fastest qualifying lap in the 20-car field with a lap of 12.383 second around the wide and sweeping third-mile clay oval with the Outagamie County Fair providing a colorful backdrop.
After lining up third in the second eight-lap heat race, Walter came home fourth to secure a spot in the second four-lap IRA dash where he started and finished fourth to claim the eighth starting spot in the 30-lap A main.
Walter moved up two spots in the early going and was running sixth when Scotty Thiel pulled off a slide job on the 16th-year driver to drop him to seventh in the running order.
On lap 13, Jeremy Schultz spun leaving Walter with nowhere to go as he got collected. The resulting damage ended his night early.
“We started eighth and we were running sixth after almost getting in a wreck with Scotty Thiel when he threw a slide job at us, dropping us to seventh,” Walter said. “We were running down the top six until we got collected when Jeremy Schultz spun in front of us. All in all, it was just a bad way to end the night.”
After some quick work from the Torque Racing crew to repair the car, the team completed the IRA twinbill by competing in the IRA Scott Semmelmann Memorial event at Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday, July 24.
Walter opened the night by qualifying 10th in the 23-car field with a lap of 13.000 around the third-mile clay oval. After starting on the pole in the first IRA 10-lap heat race, Walter finished fourth to claim the 12th starting position in the 30-lap A main.
Walter ran a smooth and consistent race hovering around the top-10 throughout en route to an 11th-place showing in a race won by Blake Nimee.
“I want to thank all of our sponsors for their support, especially the top wing sponsors, which were not on the car at Beaver Dam after our mishap at Outagamie the night before,” Walter said. “It was good to bounce back with a clean night at Beaver Dam after the disappointment from the night before.”
Walter and the Torque Racing team will take part in another IRA doubleheader this weekend starting with the annual Langlade County Fair IRA event at the Langlade County Speedway in Antigo, Wis. on Friday, July 30.
Also on the card will be the IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods and IMCA Modifieds. Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps and qualifying at 6 p.m.and racing at 7 p.m.
