Walter takes on All Stars at hometown track
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 9, 2021 – Plymouth driver Josh Walter took on the challenge of competing in against many of the top Winged Sprint Car drivers in the nation in a FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions Presented by Mobil 1 and Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series event at the Torque Racing team’s home track –The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, June 5.
After turning in a strong, career-best fourth-place IRA showing in the team’s most recent outing at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on May 22, Walter and his Torque Racing crew were hoping to ride thatmomentum against a top-notch field of competitors on a very familiar track.
However, Walter and the team were unable to get a good handle on the car and found themselves facedwith an uphill battle throughout the night.
With a capacity crowd on hand, Walter opened the night by turned the 33rd fastest lap in qualifying out of the 36 cars on hand with a time of 12.380 seconds on the third-mile clay oval.
The All Stars group qualifying format, placed Walter in the seventh starting spot in the second heat race. Walter held down the seventh spot throughout the race to move on to the B main.
The 17th-year Sprint Car driver started ninth in the 12-lap B main needing to finish in the top four to move on to the 30-lap All Star-IRA headliner.
After a two-car incident on the initial start involving Sean Rayhall and Danny Schlafer, Walter lined up seventh on the drop of the green flag.
Walter dropped back to 10th on lap 2 before rebounding to work underneath Brian Kristan along the low groove on lap 3 to take ninth. On lap 7, Walter moved in to challenge Blake Nimee on the inside line before seizing eighth in turn two on lap 8. Walter went on to finish eighth to conclude his evening.
“We struggled with the car and found the issue a little too late,” Walter said. “It’s time for us to regroup and get back on track.”
After taking the upcoming weekend off, Josh Walter and the Torque Racing team will return to action against the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series for the annual $10,000-to-win Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Saturday, June 19.
Pit gates open at 2 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 4 p.m., hot laps at 6:30 p.m. qualifying at 7 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m.
Mini Sprints and Legends will also be on the card.
