Snellenberger survives late race charge from Christians to score first win of the season
By Edward Anschutz
(Seymour, WI) August 7, 2020 Race Report- “Hot” Rod Snellenberger held off a determined Jeremy Christians on the final lap to score his first IMCA Stock Car feature of the season at Outagamie Speedway powered by EWSC. A total of 133 cars checked in to do battle for night number seven. There were 34 IMCA Modifieds, 28 IMCA Stock Cars, 25 IMCA Sport Mods, 18 Unified Street Stocks, 17 IMCA Sport Compacts and 12 Vintage Modifieds.
Harley Simon paced the opening laps of the IMCA Stock Car feature until Rod Snellenberger was able to slip by on lap 8. Logan Leary and Jeremy Christians quickly worked to the back bumper of Snellenberger with all three drivers running the cushion. Christians went to the low side several times but couldn’t find the grip to get by early on. That battle allowed Snellenberger to distance himself from the field. With 3 laps remaining Leary got loose, allowing Christians to slip into second. Christians quickly caught the leader and made a last-ditch effort on the final corner in his attempt to earn his 100th IMCA feature, diving to the inside of Snellenberger as they came to the checker. In the end it was Snellenberger first to the stripe by half a car over Christians. Larry Karcz Jr, Brandon Czarapata and Dan Michonski completed the top five.
In IMCA Modified action it was Kevin Feck leading early until JJ Andersen took over the top spot on lap 7. Andersen’s reign up front was short lived as “Mighty” Mike Mullen threw a slider to take the lead on lap 9. Mullen went unchallenged the remainder of the event to score a clean sweep on the night. Johnny Whitman extended his point lead with a second-place finish, Andersen had his best run of the season to place third, Konnor Wilinski was fourth and Feck took fifth.
Travis Roades took the lead of the IMCA Sport Mod feature on lap 7 and held off a late race charge from Skyler Woods to score his second feature win of the season. Woods had his best race of the season to place second, Cole Magnin, Zack Raab and Elijah Koenig rounded out the top five.
Rookie Ray Roe looked to be in command of the Unified Street Stock feature until he lost the handle on his machine with 5 laps remaining. Point leader Jesse Krahn inherited the lead and scored back to back wins.
Matt Brehmer was able to outlast Jake Peters to score a clean sweep in the IMCA Sport Compacts.
Blake Wondra was victorious in the Vintage Modifieds.
