‘Sixty Years of 141 Speedway’ traces history of colorful Wisconsin racetrack

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 27, 2022 – Nestled along rolling farmland in the Manitowoc County village of Francis Creek, Wis., the story of the 141 Speedway quarter-mile bullring is 60-plus years in the making and had been ripe to be chronicled in book form, until now.

After releasing “70 Years of Plymouth Dirt Track Racing – Covering the 1950 through 2020 Seasons” in 2021 and “Racing Recollections – Plymouth Racetrack Fans & Drivers 1950-2021” in 2022, Dennis Darovich of Sheboygan, Wis. has teamed up with former racer and racing photo archivist Bob Diener of Sheboygan, Wis. to tell the tale of 141 Speedway with the new book publication “Sixty Years of 141 Speedway – 1960 through 2020.”

Published by Pedal Down Promotions of Manitowoc, Wis., “Sixty Years of 141 Speedway – 1960 through 2020” features 212 pages of year-by-year recaps, point standings and newspaper stories, along with over 182 pages filled with black and white and color photos covering every era and incarnation of the former quarter-mile asphalt oval turned third-mile dirt track racing facility.

“Several avid fans of the track contributed to this unique auto racing book,” Darovich said. “Racing historian Bill Mueller wrote the foreword to ‘Sixty Years of 141 Speedway,’ while Bob Diener, a past driver in the track’s Sportsman division, provided many of the photographs in the book.

“The rich history of the 141 Speedway facility is detailed through numerous articles, driver point standings and advertisements from Midwest Racing News,” he said. “Photographs from 141 Speedway photographers are also featured throughout the book, including Mike Schneider, Dick Jepson, Weber Brothers, Al Fortner, Dan Lewis, Chuck Look, Lee Lawrence, Mark Olson, J&D Photo, Zena Lodi and Trevor Frank.  Additional photos were contributed by John Surges [VMSC], Greg Martell and Bob Bergeron. Racing fans and historians will find ‘Sixty Years of 141 Speedway’ enlightening, fascinating and hard to put down.”

In addition to being on sale for $25 during upcoming 2022 racing events at 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, Wis. “Sixty Years of 141 Speedway – 1960 through 2020” is also available in e-book and paperback formats on barnesandnoble.comand amazon.com.
