Redetzke Dominates at Red Cedar Speedway

Brad Erickson

On Friday, May 14, 2021, the Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin, featured racing action sponsored by AirTec Sports and Markquart Menomonie.  The WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, and RCS Hornets were all in attendance.  Winners on the evening saw James Giossi, Kevin Adams, Jake Redetzke, Jimmy Mars, Parker Anderson, and Sean Svee standing in Victory Lane.

The WISSOTA Late Models ran two heats with Chad Mahder and Sam Mars each taking wins.  In the feature it was Jake Miller bolting to the lead and running out front for the first two circuits; however, Greg Nippoldt used the high line to overtake the point on lap three.  Nippoldt continued to lead but suddenly broke down and the yellow flag flew.  The restart saw James Giossi, who had overtaken second, inheriting the lead.

Giossi led as Mahder rans second and Jimmy Mars had moved from eighth to third.  A crash involving Jim Carlson and Randy Gullixson drew the second and final caution flag.  The restart had Giossi out front with Mars overtaking second as John Kaanta and Mahder ran side by side for third.  As the laps ticked off, Mahder secured the third position and Sammy Mars got by Kaanta for fourth.  Jimmy Mars drove deep into turn three on the final circuit and was able to pull even with Giossi, but the high side momentum saw Giossi flash back out front alone as he drove toward and under the checkered flag.  Jimmy Mars finished runner up as Mahder drove home third.  Sammy Mars and Kaanta rounded out the top five.

In the WISSOTA Modifieds Steve Hallquist and Ashley Anderson each won their heat.  At the start of the feature, the front row of Hallquist and Josh Hessler moved out to the lead, running door to door for the first two and a half laps.  On Lap three, Hessler used the ultra-high line to take over the point as Kevin Adams and Anderson moved into second and third.  The top three were running at fierce speeds as Adams tried a slider in turns three and four, but undaunted, Hessler drove through it and remained up front.  A lap later, Adams threw it into turn three again and this time the move worked, and he overtook the lead.  Anderson closed and moved to second under Hessler as he chased Adams for the top spot.

Anderson drove hard and was able to close in and dive under the leader in turns three and four, but Adams was too strong off the top cushion heading to the line.  The only caution flag of the event flew when Hessler looped his car running in third.  The restart saw Adams out front alone with Anderson and Adam Ayotte in row two and Dave Cain inside of Shane Halopka one row deeper.  The green flag flew, and Anderson worked low and Adams up high, but Adams was simply too fast to overtake as he drove to the win.  Ayotte finished third over Cain and Halopka in the top five.

The WISSOTA Super Stocks ran two heats with Jesse Redetzke and Bart Stephen each earning a win.  There was absolutely no doubt in the feature as Redetzke jumped to the high line at the green flag and moved from his sixth starting position to the lead in one circuit.  Redetzke was a rocket as he led cover to cover and extended his lead over second to more than a half a lap on his run to the win.  Josh and Jarred Zimpfel drove from the fourth row to finish second and third, respectively.  It was Steffen and Tom Karis rounding out the top five.

There were two heats in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds which were won by Kyle Kirberger and Jimmy Mars who was running the Jesse Bryan 21 MB Customs racecar.  At the start of the feature, it was Nick Ayotte and Travis Anderson driving side by side for the first lap and a half before Anderson secured the position.  A lap three caution slowed the pace briefly and it was Anderson in control when they were back at speed.  Mars was already making his presence known as he had moved from seventh to fifth at the time of the caution and quickly dashed from fifth to third at the drop of the green.  At the halfway point, Anderson had built a solid cushion and behind him it was Mars, JD Ford, and Kennedy Swan driving in a tight pattern and swapping positions.

In the very late running one last caution flag flew.  This erased Anderson’s cushion and put Mars, who chose the high side, beside Ford in the second row.  Ninth starting Jay Richardson lined up in fifth, outside of Swan, one row deeper.  As the green flag flew, Anderson fought hard and led the first lap but a lap later, it was Mars by a bumper.  Mars took control and led to the checkered flag as Richardson ended his fine run in second after slipping by Anderson in the final turn.  Ford came home in fourth as Brandon Jensen took the fifth position from Swan at the finish.

Two WISSOTA Street Stock heats were topped by Parker Anderson and Cole Richards.  In the feature, Parker drove door to door with Cole for the lead throughout the first circuit.  On lap two, Parker had overtaken the point and Hunter Anderson had moved into third.  Parker drove to a comfortable cushion over Hunter who slipped by Cole for second.  A battle for third waged between Cole and his dad, Danny Richards, along with Andrew Hanson and Dustin Doughty.  Parker was not going to be caught and Hunter finished and strong second.  Doughty dropped out with two laps remaining and Hanson won the battle for third as Danny beat Cole to round out the top five.

The world of RCS Hornets saw another sweep as Sean Svee carried the checkered flag in both the heat and the feature. After a hard crash in the opening lap which ended Vanessa Seipel’s night, it was Svee taking the lead under green from the outside of row one.  Jeremy Johnson moved from the second row into the runner up position to set chase on the leader. Roy Cooper ran third at the halfway point when Johnson was at Svee’s rear bumper, but Svee was holding strong.  Armond Love overtook Cooper for the third position in the closing laps and coming to the white flag Johnson was able to get a fender under the leader.  They raced side by side and made contact down nearly the entire backstretch, and entering into turn three, both cars got well out of shape.  Svee was able to gather himself in and lead the dash to the checkered flag as Johnson regained his composure and followed him home.  Love, Cooper, and Levi Price rounded out the top five.

The Red Cedar Speedway is scheduled to return to racing a Friday, May 21, 2021, with the WISSOTA Race of Champions Qualifier and the Kim Partson Memorial Tour for Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness.  The racing will be sponsored by Menomonie Motorsports and Menomonie Transportation with The WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, and RCS Hornets all in attendance.
