MULTIPLE HEAVY HITTERS EXPECTED IN LUXEMBURG JULY 18 FOR ERIC VAN ITEN MEMORIAL NIGHT AT ‘THE BURG’ SPEEDWAY
(HIGHEST PAYING ONE DAY SHOW IN TRACK HISTORY SLATED WITH $46,310 PURSE UP FOR GRABS)
(Luxemburg, WI) –The largest payout in track history is expected to lure the best IMCA drivers from Wisconsin to the Eric Van Iten Memorial Night set for Sunday, July 18 at The ‘Burg Speedway in Luxemburg.
The total purse amount for the four-division show has topped $46,310.
The race at the third-mile, clay oval honors Van Iten. The longtime local racer passed away in January, 2021 after a battle with cancer. With a top prize of $6,200-to-win in the IMCA modified and stock car divisions this event has all of the top-flight competitors marking this event on their calendar.
Among them is a hometown driver who cut his teeth at Luxemburg’s third-mile clay oval Benji LaCrosse. LaCrosse has a penchant for winning the big dollar shows, with a total of four $10,000-to-win modified shows and one 10k stock car show under his belt. LaCrosse will wheel his own modified and drive the stock car for Joe and Jim White in his attempt to ‘double up’ on big dollar feature wins Sunday.
LaCrosse isn’t the only driver who’ll pull double duty for a crack at the big dough. Mike Mullen of Seymour will attempt the same fete driving the Ricky Lemmens 99 modified and stock cars, respectively.
The big show has also lured a pair of late model racers who plan on competing. Luxemburg’s Jared Siefert, who’s raced a late model in recent years, will battle with the Cody Scray stock car while Fall Creek’s Jesse Glenz will compete with Ricky Lemmens’ second modified.
Many other top drivers are expected to battle including De Pere native Johnny Whitman. Whitman won the $10,000 Clash At The Creek earlier this year. Other top locals expected to be contenders for the big cash in the modifieds include Little Suamico’s Tyler Wilson, Luxemburg drivers Jeremy Jacobs, Dave Zeitler, Seymour’s Brian Mullen, New Franken’s Shawn Kilgore, Denmark’s R.M. and Race Van Pay and Clintonville’s Lucas Lamberies among others.
In the stock cars Rod and Devin Snellenberger of Pulaski are expected, along with Algoma’s Shawn Havel, Kewaunee native Luke Lemmens, Algoma’s Dave and Tony Bouche, Hortonville’s Travis Van Straten, Oconto Falls Kyle Frederick, Green Bay’s Eric Mahlik and Forestville’s Charlie Kroll among others.
In addition, the IMCA northern sportmods and Unified Street Stocks will scrap for a $1,200 top prize.
The big event has been made possible through the tireless efforts of one of Van Iten’s great friends and co-workers Troy “Snoot” DeGrave, himself a racer.
Pit passes for adults will be $25 with youths ages 5 through 13 just $15. Children 4 and under remain free in the pits.
Grandstand admission prices remain at $10 for adults 14 and older with ages 13 and under admitted free with a paid adult.
There will also be a silent auction and several door prizes raffled off underneath the grandstand. Proceeds from the raffles and drawings will be donated to Wings Over Wisconsin’s Denmark, Wisconsin chapter.
The night will award IMCA state, regional, and national points but will not be a track points night. Modified, Stock Car, and Sport Mod divisions will be IMCA sanctioned and follow all IMCA rules. Street Stocks will be running under the Unified Dirt Street Stock rules package.
The format for the evening will be draw\redraw. 22 cars will qualify for the feature race in the Modifieds & Stock Cars with two additional drivers joining each field under a promoter’s choice for a pair of 24 car starting feature fields.
Pits open at 1:00 p.m. with the grandstand opening at 3 p.m. and racing at 5 p.m.
