“Mighty” Mike Mullen tops Modified field at Outagamie Speedway

(Seymour, WI) July 7, 2023-Race Report presented by Klink Equipment and Elite Coatings Inc- 123 drivers checked in to battle at Outagamie Speedway. There were 18 IMCA Modifieds, 26 IMCA Stock Cars, 30 IMCA Sport Mods, 26 IMCA Sport Compacts and 23 Unified StreetStocks.

An excellent night of racing greeted race fans in Seymour. With the temps comfortable in the stands, the action was hot on the track. The final checker flag flew at 10:17pm.

In IMCA Modified action it was veteran racer Brian Mullen jumping to the lead from row 2 on the opening lap. Mike Mullen broke into second and began to pressure Brian. For the rest of the race it was the Mullen and Mullen show. Brian worked the top groove while Mike used every inch of real estate to get by the leader. With 5 laps Mike found a groove next to the tires while Jayden Schmidt worked the middle line. Just like that we were 3-wide for the lead with 2 laps remaining, Mike and Schmidt were able to slip by Brian. Mike was able to come out on top when the checkers fell. Schmidt was a close second, Benji LaCrosse was third and Brian Mullen took fourth.

Fresh off a heat race win Colton See paced the opening laps of the IMCA Sport Mod feature. That was until Jake Carpenter came storming around the outside, taking the lead on lap 4. Carpenter was the class of the field, as he cruised to his first feature win of the season. Point leader Corey Kemkes placed second, Dylan Schmidt had his best run of the season to place third and Colton See completed the top four.

Cody Booth slipped by Ben Schulte late in the going to score the win the IMCA Sport Compacts. It was a great battle at the end with both drivers being very respectful of each other. Schulte had to settle for second by car length, Thomas Schulte placed third and Al Cottrell was fourth.

IMCA Stock Car point leader Tyler Wilson took the lead on lap 8 from John Heinz and never looked back to score the win. Clint Forstner took second, Dan Michonski charged hard to take third and Brett Wenzel placed fourth.

Unified Street Stock point leader Paul Diefenthaler continued his hot streak with another dominating win Friday night. He was trailed to the checkers by Kenny Richards, Justin Jacobson and Jared Spaulding.
