Late Model Challenge Series Comes To Rice Lake Speedway

By Ed Reichert

Rice Lake WI – The Structural Buildings WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series will be making a stop at the Rice Lake Speedway on Saturday night, August 12th. This will be the third appearance for the Late Models at the Speedway this year but the first and only time that the Challenge Series has been to the track.

This will be the twelfth race in the 2023 schedule for the Challenge Series with seven different drivers winning races so far, pending results from races on August 6th at Gondik Law Speedway and August 11th at Red Cedar Speedway.

Top drivers from throughout the WISSOTA region are expected to be on hand for this event which will pay $2.000 to the winner of the forty lap main event. Sam Mars and Chad Mahder have won the two previous Late Model races run here this year and they will be among the favorites along with current point leader Pat Doar and a host of other top competitors.

With the Mahder 55 Challenge Series race being held the previous night at the Red Cedar Speedway, this will be a great two race opportunity for traveling drivers and a large and diverse field of competitors is expected for this show.

And as an added bonus for race fans on this night, all five of the regular divisons that race at the speedway will also be on hand for a complete program, giving the fans great value for their racing dollar as the Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks will all be in action for a full program. And since this is the second to the last show for the drivers to earn track points as they race for season titles, the racing in these five other classes will also be intense.

Hot laps followed by Late Model qualifying will be held at 6:30 pm with the first race scheduled for 7 pm. More details and special event admission pricing information will soon be available on the speedway website and the face book page.

The Rice Lake Speedway is located one mile North of Rice Lake Wisconsin midway between Barron County highway SS and state highway 48. The track phone number is 715-236-2002. For more information, please call track co-owners Dave Adams at 715-205-2861 or Mitch Hansen at 715-205-1122.
