BLACKBERG ACES EAGLE RIVER STOCKERS, POCKETS $2,000 PAYDAY

(EAGLE RIVER, WI) July 4 – Hometown driver David Blackberg took the lead from his pole position at the drop of the green and went onto lead every lap and pocket the $2,000 stock car feature win at Eagle River Speedway Tuesday before a capacity crowd.

 

The defending track champion Blackberg sprinted into the lead at the drop of the green of the 30-lap contest. Green Bay’s Eric Mahlik and Eagle River’s Jason Zdroik ran 2^nd and 3^rd, respectively in the first five circuits.

 

Blackberg’s near straightaway lead was erased on lap five when Eagle River’s Jonathon Miller flipped his mount in turn three, drawing an amber.

When racing resumed, Blackberg kept the lead as Mahlik, Zdroik and Rod Snellenberger scrapped for the runnerup spot.  Blackberg was able to keep a five-car length cushion over the field and began sifting his way through lapped cars by lap 15. Blackberg was never headed and captured the win. The lap five yellow was the only delay of the event. Jason Zdroik took home second at the pay window. Former track champion Snellenberger took third, followed by Luxemburg’s Jared Siefert and Green Bay’s Eric Mahlik.

 

Ontonagon, Michigan’s Dave Dishaw whisked past Frank Gasperini for the lead on lap nine and went on to win the B mod feature. Gasperini hung on to take second in his finest performance of the season. Jason Zdroik, Jesse Aho and Tad Schoonover placed third through fifth, respectively.

 

Jason Zdroik, running his third feature race of the night captured the late model feature.

 

The ”Iceman” Quentin Morrison kept the lead on a restart with five laps remaining and went on to win his first career street stock feature.

 

Escanaba, Michigan’s Chase Richer scored the caution free 600 micro sprint feature.

 

The 300 micro sprint features were captured by hometown racer Mason Meier and Ontonagon, Michigan’s Addison Dishaw.
