Big Money on the Line for Modifieds at ABC Raceway on Saturday
by Nick Gima
Ashland, WI, June 8 – WISSOTA Modifieds will once again be in the spotlight at the ABC Raceway this coming Saturday night.
The NAPA Auto Parts stores of Ashland and Washburn will present the fourth-ever visit by the touring Advantage RV Mod Series to the northern Wisconsin red-clay oval. The $2,000-to-win feature will double as Round 2 of the Raceway’s own Ashland Ford-Chrysler Center Mod Series.
The touring series, with title sponsorship from Advantage RV Sales of Watertown, SD, is expected to draw some of the top Modified drivers from throughout WISSOTA, including possibly some from as far away as the Dakotas, Montana, and Iowa.
The “Dirt Tour,” as it is known, had visited the ABC Raceway for three straight seasons before the recent viral pandemic shut down the Tour completely in 2020. Past winners at Ashland include Landon Atkinson of Little Falls, MN (2017); Dan Ebert of Lake Shore, MN (’18); and Shane Sabraski of Rice, MN (’19). Ebert and Sabraski each went on to win Tour titles after their victories here.
Saturday’s visit at ABC will be the third leg of the Tour’s season-opening swing through the Northland, after shows at Grand Rapids, MN, on Thursday and Superior on Friday, and prior to a run at Proctor, MN, on Sunday. The Tour has three other three-day-weekend treks through various parts of Minnesota and the Dakotas slated during the remainder of the summer.
Because the Tour is kicking off in this region, large fields of Modifieds are anticipated at each of the four tracks this weekend.
As for the Ashland Ford-Chrysler Center Mod Series, Cole Spacek of Phillips took advantage of a late-race caution to earn a $2,000 win during the Raceway’s May 29 season-opening and Series-opening program. After Saturday, the Series will conclude on August 7, with prize monies being paid out to the top finishers in total points for all three races.
Winners during last Saturday’s “Kids’ Meet the Drivers Night” at ABC included Brandon Copp of Brule in the “big Mods;” Dave Flynn of Superior in the WISSOTA Super Stocks; Jack Rivord of Superior in the WISSOTA Midwest Mods; Cory Jorgensen of Hermantown, MN, in the WISSOTA Pure Stocks; Tiffany Hudack of Ashland for the second week in a row in the ABC Six-Cylinders; and DeJay Jarecki of Ashland in the WISSOTA Hornets.
Tickets to get into the main grandstand to watch this special event will be $18 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6-12. Youngsters ages 5 and under will be admitted free when accompanied by a paying adult.
Five of the track’s six regular weekly divisions will be in action – it will be a night off for the Super Stocks – with the grandstands opening at 5 pm and hot laps starting at 6:15. The first green flag of the night is scheduled for 7 pm. WSBZ, 93.3 FM, will air updates from 4:30-6 pm on Saturday, with simulcasts aired online via the station’s website, www.wbszfm.com.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, or log on to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com.
