Anderson, Redetzke and Knudtsen Red Cedar Winners

By Ed Reichert

Menomonie WI, Aug. 13 – While Jimmy Mars won the Mahder 55 Late Model event held on Friday night at the Red Cedar Speedway,(see separate story), three other WISSOTA sanctioned divisions were also in action and the winners of those three classes were Ashley Anderson, Jesse Redetzke and Mike Knudtsen.

Anderson won the Modified feature while Redetzke took the Super Stock main and Knudtsen topped the field for the Street Stock honors.

Eighteen Modifieds would take the green flag for their twenty lap feature race and it was A.J. Roschen who would take the initial lead from the pole with Steve Hallquist, Adam Ayote and Mike Anderson chasing him. Meanwhile, as the point leader of the division, Ashley Anderson would start eighth on the grid but would quickly move forward as he has done so many other times this season.

Cory Mahder would also be on the charge as they worked the high side of the track and moved into contention. Ashley Anderson was blistering the field as he drove by contention after contender on the top side of the track and on lap six he drove past Roschen to take over the lead with Mike Anderson and Mahder quickly following.

The second of the five yellows during the event took place after Mahder hit the wall as he pushed hard and he would be done for the evening. Ashley Anderson would then pull away from the field as a new battle for second emerged between Mike Anderson and Darrell Nelson who had charged forward after starting in the fifth row. Mike Anderson and Nelson would exchange the second spot as they battled back and forth and tried to catch Ashley Anderson.

Roschen would later be eliminated by a spin and the last yellow would be triggered after Jake Hartung, who had worked his way up to fourth, got hard into the turn one wall, climbing it and then spinning back into the ground where he was removed from the track by wrecker.

This set up a two lap dash to the finish and Ashley Anderson once again pulled away from the field as he drove on to yet another Red Cedar win here in 2021. Mike Anderson would finish second as he would edge out Nelson while Ayote hung around and got the fourth spot. Paul Harelstad would make a late change and get to the top five after starting fifteenth.

For Anderson it was his tenth feature win on area tracks in 2021 and he would remain the Red Cedar point leader with just one point show left on the schedule.

Just as dominatiing as Anderson has been in the Modifieds, Jesse Redetzke has been as dominating in the Super Stocks and he did it again on Friday with another easy feature win. Bart Steffen would be the early leader of the race with Ron Mahder and Danny Thomas close behind. Redetzke would start seventh on the grid but he was quickly on the move as he drove up to the front of the pack.

He quickly put himself in contention and on lap five made a move on Steffen after Bart slipped up the track and Jesse would take over the lead. Once in front he would dominate and after a lap eight yellow for a spinning Dylan Leu, the rest of the race would click off nonstop and Redetzke would pull away.

With Jesse well out in front and having no challenges, the focus would go to the second position where Mahder and Thomas continued to battle for that spot.

Redetzke would drive on for the easy win, his twelfth of the year at area tracks and Thomas would finish a fine second as he would edge out Mahder for that position. Tom Karis made a nice run from tenth to finish fourth and Andrew Davis would complete the top five.

Despite a small field of cars, the Street Stocks would put on an entertaining feature race that would see the lead tossed back and forth. Mike Knudtsen would start in the second row but before one lap was completed, he found an opening on the inside of the track and raced into the lead. However, Mike Ekdahl was also on the move and he would take over the top spot from Knudtsen two laps later.

However, Knudtsen would have none of that and would return the favor as she repassed Ekdahl to take over the lead. And while this was all going on, Braden Brauer, Adam Soltis and Parker Anderson all jockeyed for position and looked for an opening to advance themselves.

This race went green to checkered and while there were many challenges to his leadership, Knudtsen refused to yield to the pressure as he maintained his line, didn’t make a mistake and would drive home for his first Red Cedar checkered flag of 2021. Ekdahl would be right behind him with Brauer, Soltis and Anderson completing the top five.

The next action at the Red Cedar Speedway will be this coming Friday night, August 20th which will be the last night for the drivers to earn track points and six titles will be settled with all classes in action on Friday night. Race time is 7 pmand the latest news on this event and the rest of the 2021 racing season at the speedway can be found on the speedway facebook page and the speedway website.
