Rice Lake Speedway Rained Out Again; Practice Session Added
By Ed Reichert
Rice Lake WI, May 6 – It has been a difficult Spring for dirt tracks in Wisconsin and beyond in 2023 and that fact was reemphasized again on Saturday. A cold, miserable, dank and wet Saturday saw the owners of the Rice Lake Speedway forced to cancell their proposed opening night race for the third straight week. They will now open on Saturday night, May 13thwith what should be an epic opening night of racing.
Along with the full five division program of WISSOTA class racing, the Late Models will be on hand to race the annual Trackside Collectibles 40, sponsored by Loren Miller, with two thousand dollars on line for the winner. This will mark the first time in many years that the Late Models have been on hand for opening night and should make for a spectacular opening night event. It should be noted that because of the nature of the opener, special event admission pricing will be in effect and that information will be available on the track website and face book page.
Pit gates will open at 4 pm, the spectator gates at 5 pm and following 6:30 pm hot laps, racing will begin. Drivers are asked to arrive as early as possible to avoid a potential back up registering and so racing can begin on time with lots of racing to be done.
WISSOTA Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds, Super Stocks, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks will appear along with the best Late Model drivers from the area. Indications are that a strong field of Late Model drivers will be on hand for what should be their first special event of the 2023 racing season.
Track owners Dave Adams and Mitch Hansen also announced on Saturday that another practice session has been added to the schedule. On Wednesday night, May 10th, the track will be available for practice from 6-9 pm with race cars in all classes welcome to attend. Drivers will be charged a nominal $30 and everyone else is free with spectators welcome to witness the practice, free of charge. This will allow the drivers one more chance to shake down their race cars before opening night while also giving the track some more valuable laps before it gets pounded by the wide tires of the Late Models on Saturday.
