World of Outlaws Visit Wilmot Raceway this Saturday
WILMOT, Wisc. (July 5, 2023) — The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series hits the track at Wilmot Raceway this weekend for the Federated Auto Parts Larry Hillerud Memorial Badger 40 on Saturday, July 8.
Last year, Carson Macedo was victorious in the event over James McFadden and 10-time series champion Donny Schatz, who led the opening two laps. Macedo took the top spot on the third circuit and led the remainder of the 40-lap contest. For the Californian, it was his first victory at Wilmot Raceway.
There have been five different winners in each of the last five World of Outlaws races contested at Wilmot. David Gravel, with four victories, is the only driver who has won multiple races with the series at the venue.
Leading the way into Wilmot is current series point leader, Brad Sweet who is looking for his fifth straight Outlaws title. The California native has six victories thus far in 2023 and has finished among the top-10, 31 times through 35 races. Sweet won at Wilmot in 2021 and has six top-10 finishes in seven starts at the track.
Gravel, who is second in the standings, has won a series-best eight races this season. At Wilmot, he leads all drives with four victories. Gravel has seven top-five finishes in eight Outlaws starts at the track.
Macedo, who is third in points, has won three times this year. Last year’s win at Wilmot, marked his fourth top-10 finished at the track in as many starts.
Logan Schuchart rides fourth in the series standings on the strength of two wins and 28 top-10 finishes. The Pennsylvanian has six top-10 finishes in eight starts at Wilmot as he chases his first win at the track.
Schatz, who is fifth in points, is the only driver who has competed in all 10 previous Outlaws races at Wilmot. The North Dakota native was victorious at the track in 2019 and has eight top-10 finishes in 10 starts at Wilmot.
Sheldon Haudenschild, who is locked in a tight battle with Schatz for the fifth spot in the standings, has finished in the top-10 in all six of his previous Wilmot starts. The Ohio native, who has two wins this season, finished a career-best fourth in his debut at the track in 2017.
Gio Scelzi, the leading contender in the battle for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award, heads to Wilmot seventh in points. The Californian was victorious earlier this season in the state of Wisconsin at Beaver Dam Raceway.
Spencer Bayston, the reigning Rookie of the Year, with the Outlaws, made his debut at Wilmot last year. The Indiana native is eighth in points and has racked up 24 top-10 finishes, with six of those being top-five performances, thus far in 2023.
Brock Zearfoss, who is in the midst of his third season on the Outlaws tour in 2023, has made two starts at Wilmot Raceway in his young career. The Pennsylvania native has finished ninth each of the last two years at the track.
Jacob Allen rounds out the current top-10 in the series standings. The Pennsylvania native picked up his first-career Wilmot top-10 finish last year.
James McFadden is back in the Roth Motorsports No. 83 for the second consecutive year on the Outlaws tour. The Australian, who already has four wins this season, has made two starts at Wilmot in his career, finishing fourth in 2021 and second last year.
Robbie Price and Noah Gass, a couple of young drivers, who hit the road for the first time with the series last year, are back again this season. The pair of drivers, who made their Wilmot debuts last year, are just outside of the top-10 in the series standings.
Bill Rose, the 2015 IRA champion, is back on the Outlaws tour full-time this year as well and has raced quite a few times at Wilmot Raceway with that series in his career.
