Wilmot Raceway 7/25/20
(Wilmot, Wis., Saturday, July 25, 2020)–Derek Crane of Waukegan, IL scored his first Autometer/Brewington Electric Wisconsin Wingless Sprint Wilmot Raceway feature victory in over three years on Saturday, July 25. Crane, running second at the time, took over the lead when race leader Jimmy Sivia ended up going over the turn three berm bringing out a caution. Sivia retired from the event. Crane went on to his first Wilmot main event win since June, 2017, and second of his career. Trevor’s Jordan Paulsen took second outdueling Sharon’s Scott Hatton who finished third. Nick Petska of Spring Grove, IL scored his first IRA Lightning Sprint feature win after coming out of retirement for four seasons while competing in Wingless sprints. “I dedicate the win to my Uncle Ray who passed away earlier this year,” sand an emotional Petska who is a past Lightning Sprint Champion as well. Petska took the lead on lap six when race leader C.J. Malueg broke something in his drive train coasting him to the infield. Petska held off second place Ion Stear of Hebron, IL by less than a car length at the checkered. Pleasant Prairie’s Mike Neau finished third. Union Grove’s Chris Carlson won his second modified feature at Wilmot this season. Nick Simons was second with Mike Simons third as the Genoa City brothers battled tightly to the finish. Pell Lake’s Cody Potter scored his third street stock feature win of the season. Brandon Mertes of Antioch, IL edged out Rob Maule of Hebron, IL for second. Wilmot Raceway’s 1/3-mile clay oval hosts five divisions next Saturday, August 1. Wingless sprints, modifieds, street stocks, Bandit 4-cylinder stock cars and IRA Lightning Sprints will all be in action. Grandstands open at 5:00 p.m. with hot laps at 6:00 and racing to follow. Grandstand admission is $15.00 for ages 12 & over; $5.00 for ages 7-11; with ages 6 & under admitted free.
