Sprints, ‘Meet the Drivers’ Night Scrapped at ABC; Farm Stock Special Coming Thursday

by Nick Gima

Ashland, WI, June 24 – Local farmers and yard owners in the Chequamegon Bay area finally received some badly-needed rain, but that same precipitation came just in time to force officials at the ABC Raceway to cancel Saturday’s race program.

The show was to feature the Northern Renegades’ traditional sprints, to have been presented by the Bad River Lodge, Casino & Convention Center of Odanah, as well as the rescheduled Kids’ Meet the Drivers night, which was to have been presented by Heartland Communications Group of Ashland and Iron River.

Next up at the track will be the Farm Stock Special, presented by White River Ag Products, on Thursday, June 29. In what should be a big kick-off to the Holiday weekend, the WISSOTA Modifieds will be racing for $2,500 to win in their feature, the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds for $1,800 to win, and the WISSOTA Super Stocks for $1,200 to win. The WISSOTA Pure Stocks and ABC Raceway Six-Cylinders will also be in action.

The grandstand gates and pits will open at 5 pm on Thursday, with hot laps starting at 6:15 and the first green flag of the night set to fly at 7 pm. There will be no racing at the track on Saturday, July 1, but Saturday night race programs will resume again on July 8.

The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland, then just one mile west of State Highway 13 on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, log on to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com, or check out the Raceway’s FaceBook page.
