Rice Lake Speedway Sets Late Model Special
By Ed Reichert
Rice Lake WI, May 31 – Rice Lake Speedway track owners Mitch Hansen and Dave Adams huddled after the season opener at the speedway was completed on Saturday night and today announced that they have added a Late Model special to the speedway calendar. The track will host the WISSOTA Late Models this coming Saturday night, June 6th for the Trackside Collectibles 30, a $1,200 to win, $200 to start special for the Late Models.
“Having already lost one of our scheduled Late Model races due to our late season start, when we found out that this coming Saturday the only Late Model show for WISSOTA drivers would be held out in central South Dakota, it seemed like the perfect time for us to add a show. We quickly got together, worked with some of our marketing partners who will soon be announced, and everything came together quickly,” stated Hansen.
With no other tracks in the region running Late Models this week, a solid field of competitors from the Wisconsin and Minnesota area are expected to be on hand for the event. While the Rice Lake Speedway does not run Late Models except on a special basis, there are many of the teams that come from the Chippewa Valley area and are well known to area fans. Local fans are also anticipating the first appearance in a Late Model for many time Rice Lake track champion Kevin Adams who has moved up to a Late Model this year. Other drivers expected would include Jake Redekzke, John Kaanta, Chad Mahder, Jesse Glenz, Mike Prochnow, Steve Laursen, Jeff Massingill, Greg Nippoldt and many others.
Four other classes of cars will also be in competition on June 6th with the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Pure Stocks also racing. The Modifieds will have Saturday night off.
The pit gate will open at 4 pm on Saturday with the main grandstand one hour later. Warm ups are slated for 6:30 pm with racing to follow. Special event admission pricing will be in effect on Saturday and fans should check the speedway face book page for additional information on this race as the week progresses.
