Rice Lake Speedway 2024 Opener, Practice Sessions Postponed
By Ed Reichert
Rice Lake WI, April 16 – The Rice Lake Speedway LLC made the decision this morning to both postpone the seventy second annual season opener scheduled for Saturday night, April 20thalong with practice sessions slated for April 16thand 17th by one week.
According to track spokesman Kolby Kiehl, “two straight days of rain this week followed by some unseasonably cold temperatures would make it very difficult for us to prepare the track for the opening night of racing. And Saturday night’s subfreezing temperatures would make it very uncomfortable for the fans. We want the opener to be the best it can be and the weather this week just isn’t cooperating with that plan.”
The new schedule for next week will provide one practice session which will be on Tuesday night, April 23rd from 6-9 pm. All drivers and teams in all classes are invited to practice on the track that night. The cost will be thirty dollars per car with free admission to both the pits and the grandstands to watch the practice.
Then, on Saturday night, April 27th, the first season opener under the ownership of Rice Lake LLC will be held. Race time will be at 6 pm with the pits opening at 3 pm and the spectator seating at 4 pm. Five classes of cars will be in racing action and on opening night a committee will do the judging of the Best Appearing cars in each division with the results to be announced the following week.
