Rare Late Model Double Scheduled For Rice Lake Speedway

By Ed Reichert

Rice Lake WI – Some difficult circumstances with the weather have instead allowed the management at the Rice Lake Speedway to schedule a very unique doubleheader program for the WISSOTA Late Models on Saturday night, May 27th .

The Trackside Collectibles 40 was slated to be run at the speedway on Saturday night, May 13th. However, after preliminary events were completed, the program was rained out before the forty lap main event, paying two thousand dollars to the winner, could be run.

With the Late Models running only a three night schedule at the track in 2023, finding a date to complete the Trackside special was challenging.

However, track owers Dave Adams and Mitch Hansen came up with an idea that should suit both the drivers on hand plus give the fans of the speedway a great and special night of racing.

The second Late Model event of the year at the speedway will be the Swant Graber 40, also paying two thousand dollars to win and slated to be run on Saturday night, May 27th. This is a clear date for the Late Models from this area so Adams and Hansen decided to include the makep feature from May 13th to the May 27th progam.

Therefore, for one admission price, fans will get to see eighty laps of Late Model racing on May 27thwith the makeup feature from May 13th plus another complete program featuring qualifying heat races and another forty lap feature sponsored by Swant Graber Motors in Barron Wisconsin.

To the best of everyone’s memory, no double Late Model features have been run at the track in many years and certainly never ones paying the kind of money that the May 27th event will offer.

“It’s a great deal all the way around”, stated track co-owner Dave Adams. The Late Model drivers were planning on being here that night anyway and now they will get to race the feature race we hoped to have run on the 13th. Plus it’s a great deal for the fans to see two Late Model features and a way to thank them for turning out in excellent numbers on a miserable weather night back on the 13th.”

Only the cars that were on hand on May 13th will be allowed to run the Trackside Collectibles feature but the Swant Graber 40 is open to anyone that wants to enter and new drivers are expected to be on hand to race on May 27th that couldn’t make the first event.

The bargain doesn’t end just there though as along with the double Late Model features on May 27th, the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Street Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Pure Stocks will also be running a complete program with the Modifieds having the night off.

Special event admission prices will be in effect on May 27th and fans should check the speedway website or face book page for the latest information. Call Adams at 715-205-2861 or Hansen at 715-205-1122 with any questions.
