Rains Force Gondik Law Speedway to Cancel Friday’s Show
by Nick Gima
Superior, WI, August 11 – Day-long rains, and a threat for thunderstorms later in the evening, put a damper on the proceedings on Friday, forcing the staff at Gondik Law Speedway to call off its fifth annual Suicide Prevention and Awareness Night program.
The event, which was to feature the visiting WISSOTA Street Stocks along with the WISSOTA Super Stocks and Pure Stocks running for enhanced purses, while the Northern Vintage Stockcar Racers group was to be on hand as well as part of a seven-division race program. Now just two regular-season race nights remain at the big four-tenths-mile dirt oval at the western end of Lake Superior in 2023.
On August 18 the WISSOTA Late Models will rejoin the WISSOTA-sanctioned Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Mods, Pure Stocks and Hornets for the rescheduled Suicide Prevention and Awareness Night program. The pit gates will open at 4 pm that night, the grandstands will open at 5, and hot laps will begin at 6:30 pmfollowed by racing action scheduled to start shortly after 7.
