MIKE MULLEN FLIES TO OUTAGAMIE LATE MODEL WIN
(Seymour, Wisconsin) July 19 – Hometown driver Mike Mullen led wire-to-wire en route to winning the late model feature at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour Friday.
Mullen sprinted into the pole position from the drop of the green of the 20 lap feature, outracing fellow front row starter Troy Springborn at the start. Mullen quickly checked out and was able to skillfully weave his way through lapped traffic for the balance of the contest. Waukesha’s Taylor Scheffler stormed through the pack from his seventh starting spot to finish 2nd. Roundingout the top five finishers were Brett Swedberg, Nick Anvelink and Justin Ritchie finishing third through fifth, respectively.
Kewaunee’s Greg Gretz parlayed his outside front row starting spot into an IMCA modified feature win.
For a good portion of the contest it was a true battle of ’24’s’ as Gretz squared off with hometown driver Jayden Schmidt for the lead. Both drivers sport number 24 on their cars. On the final circuit Suamico’s Johnny Whitman squeezed past Schmidt to snag second place at the checkers. Schmidt settled for third, followed by a pair of Seymour racers Konnor Wilinski and Brian Mullen who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Appleton’s Cory Kemkes whisked past early race leader Owen Wilcox on a lap three restart of the 20 lap IMCA northern sportmod feature. Hortonville’s Jordan Jahnke, who started the contest in row five, began threading his way through the field as the contest wore on. Jahnke blasted past Kemkes and fought off Ryan Schmidt in the closing laps to hang on for the victory. Schmidt and Kemkes crossed the line second and third, respectively.
Dylan Schmidt and Jake Carpenter rounded out the top five finishers taking fourth and fifth, respectively.
Two Rivers’ Brett Wenzel slipped past Tim Van De Hei for the lead on lap five of the 20 lap IMCA stock car feature. During the second half of the contest Rod Snellenberger, who started twelfth, picked off cars one by one and caught up with Wenzel by lap 17. The duo traded the lead in the final circuits and when the pair crossed the finish line in a photo finish, Wenzel’s margin of victory was a mere .012 seconds.
Snellenberger, the current point leader, settled for second place followed by Van De Hei, Josh Mroczkowski and Kegan Van Ooyen.
Hortonville’s Trey Van Straten marched from his 9thstarting position and into the lead. The second-generation driver never surrendered the top spot and went on to capture the caution free Unified Dirt street stock feature. Trailing Van Straten at the checkers were Paul Diefenthaler, Malachi Bierman, Devin Yaeger and Michael Czarapata.
Kaukauna’s Thomas Schulte emerged triumphant in the 21 car IMCA sport compact field by winning the feature.
Action resumes next Friday, July 26. Action begins at 6:30 p.m. You can check outagamiespeedway.com for additional information.
