Mechanical setback slows Walter’s Plymouth Fair Night effort, IRA twin bill on tap
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 8, 2021 – After five weeks away from competition, Josh Walter and the Torque Racing 410 Sprint Car team’s return to action at the team’s home track – The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. ended prematurely due to a mechanical malady, during the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series’ annual appearance at the Sheboygan County Fair on Saturday, Sept. 4.
With a large Fair Night crowd packing the grandstand and a healthy 31-car IRA field on hand, Walter opened the event on a strong note by ripping off the 11th-fastest time in qualifying with a lap of 12.172 seconds around the third-mile clay oval.
After lining up on the outside front row of the third 10-lap IRA heat race, a pair of false starts pushed Walter and polesitter Russel Borland back a row and relegated the Plymouth driver to the fourth starting spot on the drop of the green flag.
Walter held down the fourth spot in the opening laps of the race along the cushion before the first of consecutive caution flags appeared on lap three for a spin involving Hunter Custer.
On the ensuing restart, Brayton Lynch slowed to bring out another caution. During the caution period, Walter retired to the pit area with an apparent engine-related mechanical issue.
“We broke a rocker arm in the heat race and pulled off during the second caution,” Walter said. “That ended our night as we went about assessing the damage and our plan for how to address the issue. We have ordered the parts and should be ready to go for this weekend at Outagamie and Cedar Lake.”
The Torque Racing team was in attendance for the fifth annual Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association Harry Neitzel Tribute race on Friday, Sept. 3 at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam, Wis. However, heavy rain showers hit the track late in the afternoon, which forced the event to be cancelled.
Walter and the Torque Racing team are set to compete in a Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association doubleheader weekend starting this Friday, Sept. 10 at Outagamie Speedway Powered by EWSC Racing in Seymour, Wis.
The following night, the team will head to Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis. for the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association’s prestigious $5,000-to-win Jerry Richert Memorial event on Saturday, Sept. 11.
