Gullixson and Kitchner Top Red Cedar Speedway

On Friday, June 18, 2021, the Red Cedar Speedway raced the WISSOTA Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks, and RCS Hornets presented by DKS Construction and Rice Lake Speedway. Furthermore, they ran two mechanic races. The Late Models and Modifieds were not on the card due to local specials in those classes elsewhere. Winners on the evening included Chad Gullixson, Shadow Kitchner, Dustin Doughty, and Jeremy Johnson.
The WISSOTA Super Stocks ran two heats with Chad Gullixson and Tommy Richards each carrying the checkered flag. The start of the feature had an adventurous first circuit with slicing and dicing going throughout the entire course of the lap. It was fourth starting Gullixson snatching the lead on lap two riding the highline as polesitter Rick Hallquist ran in second. Terran Spacek worked the high side of the raceway and overtook second position a lap later. A caution slowed the action and reformed the field and when back under green, Spacek jumped the cushion and got into the wall heavily. He attempted to continue, but there was too much damage, and the yellow flew when he was not able to clear the racetrack.
It was Gullixson bringing them back up to speed, this time with Danny Thomas setting his sites on the lead, running in second. Two separate caution flags for spinning cars kept the pack running tightly yet Gullixson was masterful up on the wall on the tricky racing surface. Tommy Richards had made his way into third and they raced three wide for the lead through turns one and two with Gullixson hanging tough and Richards earning second. Jesse Redetzke moved into fourth and eventually got by Thomas for third. Gullixson slowly built a small cushion in the lead and flashed under the checkered flag for an exciting win. Richards had searched high and low but was not able to catch the leader as Redetzke followed him home in third. Thomas and Hallquist rounded out the top five.
The WISSOTA Midwest Modified heats were topped by Travis Anderson, Craig Haas, and Jay Richardson and at the start of the feature, they went three deep for the point on the first lap as Anderson grabbed the lead at the line. Anderson looked strong out front as they formed up behind him, with most driving the high groove. A quick caution slowed the pace, but little changed other than Haas and Brandon Jensen raced door to door for third. It was Jensen taking third and then he began to dive low trying to overtake second from Kitchner. Anderson, Kitchner, and Jensen lined up against the wall as the laps ticked off toward the end.
Late in the race, a caution flag slowed the pace. On the restart, Anderson was tight against the wall as Jensen dove deep in one and two in an attempted slider for the lead. He could not clear the fast Anderson and skated up beside the leader when Anderson jumped the cushion and slammed hard into the wall. Anderson could not continue as his fine run came to an end and second running Shadow Kitchner moved into the lead on the restart. This time it was Kitchner tight against the wall and in a near replay of the last restart, Jensen dove deep in one and two in an attempted slider for the lead. He could not clear Kitchner and skated up beside the leader. Kitchner was able to maintain his line and drove to the point.
The race continued with Jensen chasing Kitchner out front when a six-car crash in turn four slowed the pace. Under green, Kitchner drove to his first ever feature win as Jensen followed him home in second. Kyle Kirberger raced from seventh to finish third as Jay Richardson and Jesse Bryan closed out their runs in the top five as there was yet another multi-car wreck in turns three and four on the final circuit.
The WISSOTA Street Stocks ran one heat with Kolby Kiehl up front at the end. The feature saw Dustin Doughty move from the outside of the front row to the lead and he drove out front from cover to cover as the race ran caution free to the finish. Although Andrew Hanson closed on second finishing Kolby Kiehl late in the event, he was forced to settle for third. Adam Soltis raced home in fourth over Hunter Anderson, who finished fifth.
The RCS Hornets have developed a habit of nightly sweeps as Jeremy Johnson back up his sweep last week to yet another this week. They raced three wide for the first circuit and it was pole sitter Roy Cooper to the lead early. However, Johnson moved low and took the lead in turns one and two and never looked back. Behind the winner, Armond Love finished in the runner up position as Roy Cooper beat out Scott Cooper for third. Joslin Carothers and Craig Oas had a fine race for fifth with Carothers earning the position later in the run.
The Red Cedar Speedway is not racing next week, but will return on Friday, July 02, 2021, with the Zebro Fourth of July Shootout presented by Midwest Food and Tobacco along with Mars Race Cars. The WISSOTA Late Models, Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Mods, Street Stocks, and RCS Hornets will all be on the card.
