GASPERINI SWEEPS EAGLE RIVER SPEEDWAY B MODIFIEDS
(EAGLE RIVER, WI) Aug 1 – Iron Mountain, Michigan’s Frank “The Tank” Gasperini passed Kory Joliff for the lead on lap eight and went on to collect the B mod feature win at Eagle River Speedway Tuesday.
The win was Gasperini’s first career feature flag at the speedway. The Michigan racer also won his heat race earlier in the night, netting a clean sweep for the evening.
Gasperini started on the outside front row of the 20-lap contest and stalked early race leader Joliff for several laps, before motoring past him on lap eight. Gasperini had his hands full as Joliff, Dave Dishaw and Austin Zdroik kept the heat on the waning laps.
A caution flag flew after the white flag was displayed, ending the contest. Dishaw would take second place money at the pay window, followed by Joliff, Auston Zdroik and Jason Zdroik.
Hometown driver Jonathan Miller scored a wire-to-wire win in the stock car class. The victory was Miller’s second here of the year.
It was another Eagle River racer – Jason Zdroik – who took home the Lion’s share of the purse by winning the late model feature.
Sugar Camp’s Jason Eisel won a caution filled street stock feature.
NASCAR Xfinity driver Parker Retzlaff, a Rhinelander native, competed in the street stock division. With no hot laps, Retzlaff raced to a fifth-place finish after starting at the tail of the field.
Woodruff’s Max Nowak netted a clean sweep in the 600 micro sprints, winning both his heat race and the caution free 15 lap feature.
Escanaba, Michigan’s Bentley Richer won the caution free, 12 lap 300 micro sprint main event.
Weekly racing will resume on Tuesday, June 8 with “Back-To-School/backpack giveaway night. The first green flag flies at 7 p.m. For further information fans are advised to check the track’s Facebook page.
