Big Races Upcoming To Rice Lake Speedway; Schedule Changes Announced
By Ed Reichert
Rice Lake WI – Two of the biggest races for the Rice Lake Speedway are quickly approaching. On Saturday night, July 30th, the WISSOTA Late Models will be making their second appearance of the 2022 racing season with the Swant-Graber 40 the featured attraction. This sanctioned event will see the top Late Model drivers in this area racing for a $2,000 top prize with all feature starters guaranteed $300 to take the green flag. Along with the Late Models, a full program of WISSOTA sanctioned Modifieds, Midwest Modifieds and Pure Stocks will be in action, giving race fans a full night of racing action. A solid field of drivers has promised their attendance, which should provide an outstanding night of Late Model action.
Then, on Tuesday night, August 2nd, the signature event for the Rice Lake Speedway will take place when the twenty eighth annual Street Stock Little Dream race takes place at the speedway. Presented by S & R Towing, this Street Stock only event will provide race car drivers from at least five states and Canada the opportunity to earn the highest payoff for a Street Stock race in the entire country.
Last year, Tim Johnson from Brainerd Minnesota earned $27,027 for his win in the thirty five lap feature race, a record for this event and it is hoped that the record can again be topped in 2022.
This gigantic purse is in large part generated by the fans on hand and by local and area businesses that contribute money to the purse that goes directly to the drivers. Contributed money goes to the race winner but fans are often creative with their contributions in unique and clever ways. The rain date for this event is Wednesday night, August 3rd. This race will again be administered by FYE Motorsports Promotions from Las Cruces New Mexico.
The speedway is also announcing several schedule changes to the remaining 2022 racing schedule. Due to staffing issues, the orginally scheduled program forSaturday night, August 20th has been dropped. However, that program, which was to be Season Championship night, has instead been moved back one week to Saturday night, August 27th which was originally targeted as a night without races. All five classes will be fighting it out for the Season Championships on that night. The Mini Mods, originally scheduled for August 20th, have been canceled due to scheduling issues. The kid’s bike races may yet be rescheduled but an announcement on that will be forthcoming.
Also, due to some scheduling issues, the Labor Day weekend doubleheader has been reduced to one night of racing, with the program to be held on Saturday night, September 3rd. There will be extra money for the drivers in all classes that night. Complete details on that night’s program and the sponsors for that event will be announced shortly which will feature all five classes that race at the track weekly.
