Alex Pokorski savors first Plymouth A-main run of 2021
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 1, 2021 – In his second season behind the wheel of a 360 Sprint Car, Alex Pokorski’s goal has been to consistentlyqualify for A-main competition.
In his fifth night in the seat of the No. 4 Pokorski Motorsports 360 Sprint Car of the 2021 season, Alex Pokorski found his way into the 25-lap Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car A main on a night when a Midwest Sprint Car Association season-high 37 cars signed in at The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, May 29.
After lining up sixth in the third 10-lap PDTR 360 Sprint Car heat race, Pokorski held the sixth spot until lap seven when he ducked under Josh Teunissen to secure fifth, which is where he finished.
Pokorski then lined up on the outside of the front row of the first 12-lap 360 Sprint Car B main alongside Tony Wondra needing a top-three finish to advance to the A main. Pokorski moved past Wondra to settle into second on the opening lap behind race leader Tim Haddy. After two caution flags for spins slowed the pace on lap 3, Justin Miller slipped past Pokorski onlap 4 to move the West Bend driver to third.
In the waning laps, Waldo’s Chris Clayton mounted a charge along the high groove to pressure Pokorski for third. However, Pokorski nipped Clayton at the finishto secure his first A main berth of the season at Plymouth.
After starting 21st in the 25-lap PDTR 360 Sprint A main, Pokorski dropped to 22nd at the start before moving underneath Austin Hartmann to take 21st on lap 14. Pokorski then switched to the high groove to pressure Scott Conger for 20th on lap 15 before slowing to a stop in turn two to bring out a yellow flag when a large piece of mud struck the car and shut off the engine.
After the Pokorski Motorsports pit crew addressed the issue in the work area, Pokorski returned to move past Hartmann, Conger and Justin Erickson in the closing six laps to earn a 19th-place showing in his first PDTR 360 Sprint Car A main of the season, which was won by Ben Schmidt.
“The night was pretty fun because I got to race back and forth and get into the mix with others in each race,” Pokorski said. “The car felt good and the track was pretty racey the whole night. The B main was the closest finish I’ve ever had I think. Luckily, I was able to get the third spot and make the A main.
“Throughout the A main, I was learning to run the cushion, which I haven’t really done before,” he said. “I was a little unlucky when a big chunk of mud broke my dash and shut the car off, but we were able to restart and finish the race. It was a lot of fun racing with Scott Conger after the restart. I think we went back and forth for a good five or six laps.”
The Pokorski Motorsports team will return to The Plymouth Dirt Track .at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. with Alex Pokorskiagain slated to be behind the wheel as the PDTR 360 Sprint Cars will compete in conjunction with the annual appearance of the FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions and Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series event on Saturday, June 5.
