Walter cranks out second straight IRA top-10 at Outagamie Speedway
(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) September 16, 2020 – It may have taken a little while to fire them up, but Josh Walter and the Torque Racing team appears to be hitting on all cylinders in Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series action.
The 16th-year Plymouth Wis. competitor backed up a strong seventh-place A-main showing at the Dodge County Fairgrounds “horsepower half mile” in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Sept. 4 by notching a solid ninth-place main event finish at Outagamie Speedway Powered by EWSC Racing in Seymour, Wis. on Friday, Sept. 11 to tally the team’s second consecutive top-10 finish in IRA action.
Walter opened the event by ripping off a qualifying lap of 11.859 seconds to finish fourth out of the 22 cars to take a qualifying circuit around the third-mile clay oval.
After starting third in the first 10-lap IRA heat race, Walter drifted high in turn one of the lightning fast racing surface to fall back to fourth in the running order as Jordan Goldesberry slipped past on the opening lap. On lap 2, Robbie Pribnow moved by to drop Walter to fifth, which is where he finished the race.
Walter then drew the third starting position in the second four-lap dash and held the spot throughout the race to secure the sixth starting spot in the 30-lap IRA A main.
Despite a light rain, which had moved over the track after the completion of the second IRA dash, the IRA main event rolled off with Walter starting from the outside of the third row.
After Jordan Goldesberry and Joey Moughan moved past, Walter completed the first lap in eighth place in the running order. On lap 3, the red flag appeared when Bryce Schmitt flipped in turn three.
After restarting ninth, Walter held his position until a yellow flag came out on lap 5 when Joey Moughan spun in turn four. Walter restarted eighth and briefly took over seventh when Jeremy Schultz jumped the cushion in turn four turn on lap 12.
Two laps later, Schultz battled back to duck under Walter in turn four to move Walter back to eighth. As the leaders started to work their way through lapped traffic, Scott Biertzer charged in to seize eighth and drop Walter back to ninth on lap 27.
Walter held the ninth spot over the final three circuits to secure his second top-10 A-main finish of the 2020 season in a race won by Hunter Schuerenberg.
Walter and Torque Racing team are set to take the upcoming weekend off, before returning to action for a Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Car Series doubleheader at the Dodge County Fairgrounds in Beaver Dam on Friday, Sept. 25 and The Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, Sept. 26.
