World of Outlaws Visit Wilmot Raceway this Friday & Saturday
WILMOT, Wisc. (July 9, 2024) — The World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series hits the track at Wilmot Raceway this weekend for the Federated Auto Parts Larry Hillerud Memorial Badger 40 on Friday, July 12 and Saturday, July 13. The event was expanded to a pair of events this year, with both nights being a full racing program.
There have been five different winners in the last six World of Outlaws races contested at Wilmot. David Gravel, the current series point leader, has won four times at Wilmot, which is the most of any driver with the series.
Last year, Carson Macedo was victorious for the second straight year in the Larry Hillerud Memorial Badger 40. Macedo, who is second in points, has a pair of victories this season. The California native has 25 top-five finishes in the first 31 race of the 2024 campaign.
Gravel leads the way into Wilmot as he chases his first World of Outlaws title. He leads the series with nine victories this season. He won three straight at Wilmot from 2014-2016. Gravel has a series-leading 22 top-five finishes this season.
On the local front, Bill Balog, who originally is from North Pole, Alaska, but has called Wisconsin home for well over the last decade, has won numerous races at Wilmot with the Interstate Racing Association (IRA). Balog is a 10-time champion with that series and the leading rookie contender with the Outlaws this year as he is in the midst of his first full season on the road with the series.
Donny Schatz, the 10-time series champion, who is second in points, is the only driver who has competed in all 11 previous Outlaws races at Wilmot. The North Dakota native was victorious at the track in 2019. Schatz has two wins this season as he chases his 11th series title.
Gio Scelzi, who is in his second full season the road with the World of Outlaws, is currently fourth in points and leads the series with 27 top-10 finishes. The Californian is also a past winner in Wisconsin at Beaver Dam Raceway. Scelzi has one victory this season on the Outlaws trail.
Michael “Buddy” Kofoid is the leading contender this season for the Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award. The California native has one victory this year and will be making his Wilmot debut.
Logan Schuchart, who rides sixth in the series standings, recently won his first race of the season at Cedar Lake Speedway in Western Wisconsin. The Pennsylvania native also won twice over the last week and a half in his home state, during Pennsylvania Speedweek.
Sheldon Haudenschild, who has won seven races thus far in 2024, finished a career-best fourth in his debut at Wilmot in 2017. He won earlier this season in the state of Wisconsin at Beaver Dam Raceway, where he has now won four times in his career.
Brock Zearfoss, who is in the midst of his fourth season on the Outlaws tour, has made three starts at Wilmot Raceway in his career. The Pennsylvania native has a pair of top-10 finishes at the track.
Landon Crawley, another of the rookie contenders this season, will be seeing Wilmot Raceway for the first time this weekend. The 16-year-old from Arkansas, pilots the No. 7S for longtime Outlaws competitor Jason Sides, who serves as the car owner and crew chief.
Kraig Kinser, the son of 20-time Outlaws champion Steve Kinser, is back on the road with the series this season. The veteran driver is a past winner in Wisconsin at Beaver Dam. He is currently just outside of the top-10 in points.
Bill Rose, the 2015 IRA champion, is back on the Outlaws tour full-time this year. He is currently sidelined, due to injury, and has young driver Kelby Watt, piloting his familiar No. 6. Watt will be making his Wilmot Raceway debut.
