Mullen and Parker Go Back To Back, Cop Feature Wins at Outagamie
June 10, 2022 Outagamie Speedway Seymour, WI.

Friday’s opening ceremonies started with Chase Parker and Mike Mullen having the honor of carrying our nation’s colors for the national anthem for picking up feature wins the week before. The night ended with those two looking to have the same honor next week. 146 cars across five divisions checked in to do battle and looked to knock off last week’s feature winners.

The Professional Plating IMCA Modified kicked off with Russ Reinwald leading the opening lap from his pole position starting spot. Josh Long quickly piloted his 88 machine into second when caution flew for contact between Tyler DeBouche and Mike Mullen sent Mullen’s 99 car spinning and DeBouche’s 66 to the pits. The restart sawBenji LaCrosse work the middle of the track into third and then to the high side to take 2nd. By lap 6 LaCrosse had moved into the lead and looked to set sail to the checkers. Long and Mullen both wanted to prevent that from happening but the duo had to settle second place first. The pair exchanged slide jobs with Mullen throwing one on Long in three and four and Long returning the favor in one and two before Mullen was able to complete the pass for 2nd on lap 12. With 5 laps to go Mullen was closing the gap and the lead cars closed on lap traffic. Mullen caught LaCrosse and threw a daring slider on the leader to steal the top spot and held on for the win, his second in as many weeks. LaCrosse settled for second, Long third, Cody Schroeder fourth, and Tim Ward, racing out of Harcourt Iowa, completed the top five.

Chase Parker took advantage of his outside row two starting spot to grab the lead early in theBaileigh Industrial IMCA Stock Car feature and set off to capture wins on back to back weeks. Dan Michonski and Cole Czarneski fell into second and third respectively and looked to prevent Parker from accomplishing that feat. Michonski started to reel in the leader while Brett Wenzel worked his way to third and Mike Mullen, pulling double duty, piloted his 99 car to fourth. Michonski got to the back bumper of Parker and pressured the leader repeatedly but Parker did not wilt and hung on to grab his second feature win in a row. Michonski captured a hard fought second, Wenzel nabbed third, Kenny Richards was fourth, and Kyle Frederick rounded out the top five.

The IMCA Northern Sport Mod A Main event saw Derek Fehling shoot to the opening lap top spot from the front row but that would be the only lap he led as Jordan Jahnke went to the point on lap two. Jesse Cullen quietly found himself in second when caution flew on lap five when the 11S of Jeff Schmuhl came up limp off turn four and stalled out in turn two unable to make pit lane. The restart had Jahnke lead Cullen, Fehling, and Skyler Woods back to racing speeds. Cullen took advantage of the restart to work inside of Jahnke and into the top spot. Ryan Schmidt steadily moved through the field and was looking to run down the leader when the red flag flew on lap nine when contact sent the 73 machine of Dustin White upside down. White was ok but his race was over. The ensuing restart had Cullen lead Schmidt, Fehling, and Woods back to green. Woods sent his 32X car higher than anyone else was running and found the grip on the top side to grab third and proceeded to battle with Schmidt for the runner up spot. When the dust settled and the checkers flew Cullen held on for the win, Woods won the fight for second, Schmidt took third, Timothy Warner fourth, and Mason Woods brought his 7W home fifth.

Matt McDonald took control of the opening lap of the Trailer Express LLC Unified Dirt Street Stock feature from his P1 starting spot but a quick caution saw Trey Van Straten snipe the lead away on the restart. James Fletcher powered his way to second and staged a side by side, multi lap battle with Van Straten for the lead. A late restart with four laps remaining saw PaulDiefenthaler turn the restart into a three way battle for the lead. Diefenthaler would fade leaving Fletcher and Van Straten alone at the front to decide the winner. Van Straten crossed the finish line first, Beau Schroder snuck into second, Fletcher settled for third,Diefenthaler fourth, and BrookeDiefenthaler survived an early race mishap with an infield tire to finish fifth.

The Midwest Equipment Dock And Lift Services (MEDALS) IMCA Sport Compact feature hadCollyn Jorgenson take the early lead until Cody Booth worked by into the top spot. Booth opened a gap as Thomas Schulte and David Cox traded the second spot back and forth. Booth held on after a restart with five laps remaining to capture the win. Cox came home second, Schulte third, Michael Brehmer fourth, and Jeremy Czarapata fifth.
