“Outlaw” Richards and “Superman” Schmuhl secure wins at Outagamie Speedway

By Edward Anschutz

(Seymour, WI) September 10, 2021 Race Report- “Superman” Jeff Schmuhl dominated the IMCA Sport Mod feature at Outagamie Speedway presented by Klink Equipment & Elite Coatings Inc. 71 cars checked in to do battle at the fairgrounds. There were 21 IRA Sprint Cars, 32 IMCA Sport Mods and 18 Unified Grand Nationals. For full IRA Spring Cars results please visit irasprints.com

Action was red flagged on the first lap of the IMCA Sport Mod feature as Taylor Hauschildt went for a wild ride in turn two, collecting the cement barrier at the end of pit lane. Hauschildt was ok but his machine was done for the night.

Once the race resumed Aaron Butterbrodt grabbed the lead until “Superman” Jeff Schmuhl raced by on lap 2. Schmuhl set sail leaving the battle for the second to Robert Wittkopf and Butterbrodt. Wittkopf was able to work into the runner-up position midway through contest but the distance was too much to make up as Schmuhl captured his second feature win of the season. Wittkopf had to settle for second at the pay window, Derek Fehling made some late race moves to place third, Butterbrodt took fourth and Chris Budzban rounded out the top five.

“The Outlaw” Kenny Richards paced the opening lap of the Unified Dirt Grand National feature until Jonathon Otte slipped by down low on lap 2 to take the top spot. Richards came storming back a lap later to regain the lead. A caution on lap 5 bunched the field. As the race restarted once again it was Richards taking command of the race. Richards pulled away to score the win and a clean sweep of the evening. Otte crossed the stripe second but didn’t pass post-race tech.  Kyle Caswell was credited with second, Ryan Minster was third, Aaron Streblow took fourth and Mike King completed the top five.

Our next night of racing is on Saturday, September 18 for the annual Fall Brawl. The Dirt Kings Late Models, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Sport Compacts, Unified Grand Nationals and Unified Dirt Street Stocks will be in action. Racing starts at 4:00pm. It will be a Draw/Redraw format.
