5-1-21 Wilmot Opening Night Results

(Wilmot, Wis., Saturday, May 1, 2021)–Carson Short of Marion, IL made his first ever visit to Wilmot Raceway and Wisconsin memorable by taking the victory in the Johnny Reimer Tribute 25-lap Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts Interstates Racing Association (IRA) Wilmot opening night main event. Jake Blackhurst of Hanna City, IL was second with Danny Schlafer of Gibson, WI third. “I like this track,” said Short. “I have to thank my family and sponsors for getting the car together. We definitely have the next IRA/All Star race at Wilmot on our schedule(June 4).” Derek Crane of Racine led flag to flag in the 20-lap Autometer/Brewington Electric 20-lap Wingless Sprint Car feature. Bristol’s Chris Klemko was second. Jimmy Sivia of Wintrhop Harbor, IL third. “We just got the car (engine) fired off last night, and as the feature ended my brakes were fading,” said D. Crane. “It’s great to get the opening night win.” C.J. Malueg of Johnsburg, IL scored the IRA Lightning Sprints season opening 15-lap feature win. Oak Creek’s Mark Heinert was second. Ion Stear of Hebron, IL third. “I wasn’t sure what would happen to the track when they watered it just before the feature,” Malueg admitted. “It turned out fine as we had the perfect set up on the car for it.” Chris Carlson of Caledonia led all 20 laps of the modified feature for the victory. Sheboygan’s Joel Seegert was second. Elkhorn’s Jason Wirth third. Wilmot Raceway hosts “Saturday Night Thunder” on May 8 featuring wingless sprints, lightning sprints, modifieds and the season debut for the street stocks and Bandit 4-cylinder stock cars. Grandstands open at 5 p.m. with on track activity at 6 p.m. racing to follow.
