BEAVER DAM, Wisc. — November 17, 2017 — The Ninth Annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial Presented by Karavan Trailers for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at Beaver Dam Raceway in Wisconsin is set for Saturday, June 23, 2018.

Shane Stewart picked up the win this past season in the event over a hard-charging Kerry Madsen, who started 21st. Bill Balog was victorious in the 2016 edition of the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial, scoring his first career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win. The win for the now eight-time Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Series champion was the first by a driver from that series with the World of Outlaws.

Joey Saldana is the only driver who has won the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial more than once, taking the checkered flag in the inaugural race in 2010 and repeating in 2011. In each of the last seven editions of the race, a different driver has visited victory lane, including nine-time series champion Donny Schatz, Stewart, Brad Sweet, Craig Dollansky, Kraig Kinser, Saldana and Balog.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series first competed at Beaver Dam Raceway in 1996, with former series champion Dave Blaney picking up the win in that event. A total of 15 drivers have visited victory lane with the series at the track in previous 24 A-Feature events over the last 21 years. Saldana and Daryn Pittman, each have three wins at Beaver Dam to lead all drivers in World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competition, while Schatz has reached victory lane twice at the high-banked, third-mile.

The 2017 campaign was another historic one for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series as 20 drivers picked up wins. Leading the way was Schatz, who scored his ninth series championship and became the first driver in series history to win 20 or more A-Feature events in five consecutive seasons. David Gravel had a career-year, earning 18 A-Feature wins, which was second only to Schatz. Gravel finished third in points for the second consecutive year.

Brad Sweet was nearly as consistent as Schatz, picking up 72 top-10 finishes just two less than the champion, with 56 of those being top-fives. Sweet visited victory lane five times in 2017 en route to finishing second in points. Pittman ended up fourth in the standings, while picking up three wins, with Stewart, who reached victory lane eight times, rounding out the top-five in points.

Jason Johnson, who won four races finished sixth in points, followed by Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner Sheldon Haudenschild in seventh. Kraig Kinser, who had a win was eighth, with Logan Schuchart, who earned a career-high four victories, in ninth and rookie Brent Marks rounded out the top-10.
