By Edward Anschutz
(Sturgeon Bay, WI) 9/2/17 Hill Raceway Race report- Despite heavy showers all afternoon the track crew and drivers were able to make the track very raceable, allowing us to get the full show completed. In a thriller Greg Gretz outlasted Jeremy Jacobs to score the win in the Village Kitchen Modifieds at the Hill. John Knudson was the winner of the Trailer Race of Destruction.
Greg Gretz jumped out to an early lead in the Modified main as Jeremy Jacobs and Jay Matthias gave chase. Jacobs secured second, setting his sights on Gretz. Jacobs closed in, sliding under Gretz for the lead with 2 laps remaining. The duo raced door to door with Jacobs on the cushion and Gretz down low. Coming to the checker, Gretz threw a slide job, Jacobs crossed over down low as the pair ran under the checkers, with Gretz edging out the win by a bumper. TJ Smith was third, Matthias took fourth and Todd Dart completed the top five.
Bill Hayes paced the opening laps of the Street Stock feature until John Gregorich took over the top spot on lap 6. Gregorich survived a late race charge from Dave DeGrave to score the popular win while driving the John Hill machine. DeGrave had to settle for second, Hayes was third, Jeremy DuBois and Amber Delsart rounded out the top five.
Randy LeMieux Jr drove his new car all the way to victory lane in the Sport Mods. LeMieux Jr. dominated the event, leading every lap. Sawyer Haese placed a solid second, Jared Siefert took third, Connor Iverson was fourth and Craig Dorner came home fifth.
