JOHN ANSCHUTZ & RYAN LEMIEUX LEAD THE WAY AT THE HILL
(Sturgeon Bay, WI) 8/13/17 The Hill Raceway race report-
71 cars checked in to do battle in four divisions. There were 20 Sport Mods, 20 Street Stocks, 19 Stock Cars and 12 Baby Bombers.
There has been a schedule change, championship night will
now be on Friday September 1st with a 7:00 PM start. There will also be a non points race on Saturday September 2nd with a 6:00 PM start.
In racing action John Anschutz held off Jamie Suchocki
and Dave Bouche to claim the win in the Stock Cars. Other feature winners were Ryan LeMieux-Sport Mod, Dave DeGrave-Street Stock and Scott Blanke-Baby Bomber. Craig Dorner was victorious over Bernie Reinhard in the Sport Mod Budweiser Shootout.
John Anschutz jumped from the outside pole to the lead
of the Stock Car feature. Jamie Suchocki followed to the runner up position. Suchocki began applying heavy pressure to Anschutz, pulling even with him several times for the lead. Each time Anschutz was up for the challenge. A caution on lap 11 set up a dash
to the checkers. Suchocki once again went to work up top as point leader Dave Bouche worked the low groove. Suchocki and Bouche gave Anschutz they’re best shot but in the end it was Anschutz leading all 18 laps enroute to a clean sweep. Anschutz pocketed an
extra $100 for the win courtesy of Gnome Games. Bouche was able to secure second, Suchocki was third, Bret Koehler and Rod Snellenberger completed the top five.
Rookie Brian Lackie paced the open lap of the Sport Mod
main event until Eugene Gregorich III raced by on lap 2. Then it was “Rocket” Ryan LeMieux’s turn up front as he raced to the lead on the highside on the 3rd lap. LeMieux went unchallenged the remainder of the event, scoring a clean sweep. Randy LeMieux Jr.
put on a driving clinic racing from row 9 to finish second. Craig Dorner stays in the title fight with a third place run, Jarred VanLaanen and Cody Rass round out the top five.
In Street Stock action Nathan Delsart lead early until
Jeremy DuBois raced by on lap 7 for the top spot. Point leader Dave DeGrave started in row 9 after trouble in the heat race but it only took him 10 laps to pass DuBois for the lead. DeGrave went on the score the victory. DuBois was second, Delsart had a career
best third place finish, Ford Malvitz was fourth and Derek Kaye took fifth.
Scott Blanke made a last lap pass on TJ Everard to score
his first ever win at the Hill in the Baby Bombers. Everard had to settle for second, point leader DJ Jorgenson placed third, Tony Everard took fourth and Scott Schlafke was fifth.
