Free Admission for Cancer Fundraiser, HoF Night at ABC

Ashland, WI, July 29 — After a one-month hiatus, the highly-anticipated “Race to a Cure” fundraiser program will be held on Saturday night at the ABC Raceway, along with the track’s fourth annual Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

Northern Clearing Inc of Ashland, in conjunction with Heartland Communications of Ashland, will present the annual fundraiser to benefit the various cancer awareness and prevention groups in the Chequamegon Bay area. The track will also offer free general admission to all fans who want to watch the program from the grandstands on this one special night.

In addition, Zar’s Banquet Hall of Ashland will not only sponsor the induction ceremonies for the Raceway’s Class of 2017, but it will host the Inductees’ Banquet on Saturday afternoon prior to the race program.

A full slate of race action for the WISSOTA-sanctioned Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Mods and Pure Stocks and the ABC Six-Cylinders is also on the docket, with the Pure Stocks starting off the show with its make-up feature from the rain-shortened July 8 program.

During the race program, fans will be invited to help the Raceway raise money by donating to the area’s cancer-fighting causes in several different ways. Free-will offerings can be donated at the admission gates or at other collection points located throughout the facility, and there will also be an ongoing favorite-driver vote during the program, giving fans a chance to donate at one dollar per vote, with all monies collected going directly to the overall fundraising effort.

Fans can also purchase numbered cancer awareness buttons, citing the supportive phrase “No One Fights Alone,” during the program, with half of the proceeds going directly to the contribution collection. The other half of the monies raised from the button sales will be divided into cash prizes to be raffled off to those who purchased buttons, along with a prize basket donated by the Neighborly Bar of Ashland and gift certificates from Lake Shore Cafe of Ashland.

In addition, there will be a one-dollar “happy hour” special on select food and drink from 6:30-7:30 pm, and more fun in store for fans in attendance.

During intermission of the race program, this year’s inductees into the ABC Raceway Hall of Fame will be formally introduced. As unanimous inductees, two local businesses will be honored for their long-time support of the Ashland track and of area stock car racing – FastLane Motorsports & Custom Powdercoating of Ashland, and the NAPA Auto Parts Stores of Ashland and Washburn.

The four new members to be added in the Volunteers and Contributors category, for long-time service to the overall success of the Raceway, will be George and Mary Bowers, Mike Eder, Tom Lajcak and Nick Nye.

In the Drivers category, eight-time ABC Raceway champ Don Copp will be inducted along with 1978 Late Model champion Jim Eliason, five-time ABC Street Stock champ Larry Haderly, and two-time Red Clay Classic winner Scott Hipsher.

Hot laps will start on Saturday night at 6:15 pm, followed by heat races at approximately 7 pm. All grandstand admission tickets are free for this night of racing and fun. “Z-93 Race Night” will air on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, and stream live on www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.

The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call (715) 682-4990, or log on to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com.
