Pure Stocks to Run for Big Money at ABC
Ashland, WI, July 15 — The Ashland-Bayfield County Sportsman’s Club will present the 14th annual “Pure Excitement 25” special this Saturday night at the ABC Raceway.
The popular headline event for the entry-level WISSOTA Pure Stocks will include a 25-lap A-feature that is expected to pay at least $1,250 to win out of an overall purse in excess of $4,900 at press time. The winner’s share is roughly ten times that of a first-place check on a regular night at the northern Wisconsin oval, and that should draw upwards of 30 drivers or more from tracks throughout the region.
The initial purse for the event was set by the Raceway Board at around $3,500; since then contributions from fans, businesses and race teams have significantly bolstered the coffers. Everyone is welcome to continue to help build the purse by contributing any amount to any finishing position in the feature, right up until just prior to the start of the race.
The event record for overall purse is just shy of $5,900, collected for the 2013 race. The largest first-place check ever written for the PE25 was $1,413, awarded to Michael Blevins of Hibbing, MN, after the 2014 running.
There have been 11 different winners of the “Pure Excitement 25,” but only one driver is a repeat champion – current WISSOTA Super Stock driver Cory Casari of Montreal, who won the first two editions in 2004-’05. Shawn Amundson of Barron is the most recent winner of the special, collecting his first and only ABC Raceway feature win during this event in 2015.
Last year’s PE25 was rained out, and the Raceway was unable to reschedule.
Members of the Ashland-Bayfield County Sportsman’s Club will be at the track on Saturday selling tickets for their annual fundraiser raffle, with the final drawing to be held at the Raceway prior to Saturday’s features. Prizes include some very high-end rifles and shotguns, or cash alternatives, with proceeds going toward the Club’s many outdoor educational programs.
Because of wet weather interrupting last Saturday’s race program just prior to the kids’ bike races and feature action, there will be a lot of bonus racing scheduled for fans to enjoy over the next few weeks. The make-up of the July 8 features for the ABC Six-Cylinders and Super Stocks will kick off this Saturday’sshow, while the WISSOTA Modifieds and Midwest Mods will run their missed A-mains from that night as part of the track’s FastLane Motorsports Northland Super Stock Series special on July 22.
The Pure Stock make-up feature will be added to the Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies and “Race to a Cure” cancer awareness fundraiser night on July 29, which will also offer free grandstand admission. The kids’ bike races are slated to be added to the “Summer Blast” fan appreciation night on August 19.
All five regular weekly divisions will be in action on Saturday, with hot laps starting at 6:15, followed by heat races at approximately 7 pm. Adult grandstand admission tickets are priced at just $11 each, and younger fans accompanied by a paying adult will be admitted free. “Z-93 Race Night” will air on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, and stream live on www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information.
The ABC Raceway is located 3-1/2 miles south of Ashland on State Highway 13 and one mile west on Butterworth Road. For raceday information call , or log on to the track’s website, www.abcraceway.com.
