Oertel Victorious on Tim’s Automotive & Machine Night
Unity, WI. July 7— Tim’s Automotive & Machine sponsored Salute to The Troops night at Spring Lake Speedway Friday night.
Racing was delayed by a little over an hour as rain showers blew through the area earlier in the day and soaked the track. Once racing began, the fans were presented some exciting action.
Andy Karl opened the night with a feature victory in the B-Mod series.
Karl took a close lead over pole sitter Grant Southworth early in the feature before Southworth left the race for unspecified reasons.
Chad Selk’s night ended early as he was involved in two cautions. The second caution, a spin caused by a flat tire on Selk’s car, led to a pile-up that collected Derek Haas and Mark Widmann.
Kent Baxter traded the second position back and forth with Paul Niznik throughout the feature before Baxter secured the runner-up spot after the last restart.
The top five finishers for the B-Mods, starting with first were: Karl, Baxter, Niznik, Scott Anderson and Chris Flick.
The newcomer to the track, Cody Campeau, took the feature win for the Super Stocks. Campeau started on the pole and dominated the race as the field struggled to keep up with the leader.
Terry Kroening pulled out of the race midway through the feature with what appeared to be mechanical issues.
The top five finishers for the Super Stocks, starting with first, were: Campeau, Randy Spacek, Scott Geiger, Joel Peterson and Kroening.
Nate Hauge collected the feature victory for the Street Stocks. The win marks Hauge’s first of the season at Spring Lake.
Jared Lindner held a large lead at the start of feature as Hauge ascended through the pack.
The 13 of Andrew Westman appeared to blow his engine and brought out a caution that erased Lindner’s large lead.
On the restart, Hauge stayed within a car length of Lindner and challenged the leader in the turns. Hauge took the lead after passing Lindner in turns three and four and held the lead to victory.
The top five finishers for the Street Stocks, starting with first, were: Hauge, Lindner, Ralph Stark, Parker Anderson and Michael Rick.
Chris Oertel won the A-Mod feature for his third victory of the season at SLS.
Oertel, starting behind pole sitter Grant Southworth, grabbed the lead early on and lead throughout to finish in victory circle. Southworth fell to the third position after getting passed by both Oertel and Matt Leer.
The 44 of Jared Loos spun in the front stretch to bring out the first caution of the night. Loos would not finish the race.
Oertel held a strong lead after the race resumed but was challenged by Leer, who pulled within a car length of Oertel. Leer couldn’t sustain his distance from Oertel and fell further behind Oertel as the race concluded.
The top five finishers for the A-Mods, starting with first, were: Oertel, Leer, Southworth, Paul Niznik and Steve Lavasseur.
Jason Havel took home his second feature win of the season at SLS for the Pure Stocks.
Dean Pronschinske took the early lead over pole sitter Randy Luedtke. Luedtke fell back through the pack as he was challenged and overtaken by Havel.
Pronschinske seemed to be in control of the lead before he made contact with the lap traffic car of Travis Smith in the back stretch. Pronschinske lost his tire on the following lap and had his night end early.
Havel took over the lead after the caution and drove his car to victory.
The top five finishers for the Pure Stocks, starting with first, were: Havel, Tucker Quinn, Jim Thur, Brent Hauge and Luedtke.
Kasey Gross was back in victory circle Friday with his fourth victory of the season in the Hornet series at Spring Lake.
Starting outside of the pole position, Gross took the early lead from Chad Halterman. Previous feature winner Mark Schoone moved into the second position, but spent much of the race battling Mitch Meier for the second spot.
Schoone took over the second position for good and challenged Gross for the lead later in the race but could not catch Gross.
The top five finishers for the Hornets, starting with first, were: Gross, Schoone, Meier, Jake Halterman and Chad Halterman.
The Junk Yard Wars race produced some hard hits and creative driving to end the night. Jerome Litersch endured 20 laps of tire racing to take the victory.
The top three finishers, starting with first, were: Litersch, Travis Paul and Jeff Litvenoff.
Racing returns to Spring Lake Speedway on Friday, July 21 for Colby Chrysler night featuring A-Mod & B-Mod Specials. The night will also include regular series: Street Stocks, Pure Stocks & Hornets. Racing will begin at 7:30 p.m.
