MULLEN, VAN OOYEN & VANDENBERG VICTORIOUS AT OUTAGAMIE SPEEDWAY
(Seymour, WI) 7/6/17 Race Report- For the second week in a row point leader Brian Mullen made a winning pass, this time on Jay Matthias in the waning laps to win the IMCA Modified feature. Other feature winners were; Chaz Van Ooyen-IMCA Stock Car, Jason Vandenberg-IMCA Sport Mod, Mike Carter Street Stock and Mitch Mier-IMCA Sport Compact.
Jay Matthias was the man to beat early in the IMCA Modified main event, opening up a huge advantage. Point leader Brian Mullen worked from row six, giving chase. As the race hit the midway point Matthias worked the highside and Mullen worked down low. The duo raced wheel to wheel for the win the remainder of the contest, until Mullen took the top spot with 3 laps remaining. Mullen scored the win and extended his point lead. Matthias had to settle for second, Jamie Schmidt was third, Benji LaCrosse took fourth and Brad Lautenbach completed the top five.
In IMCA Stock Car action, Barry Streck paced the opening circuits with Kurt Olson and Trent Nolan giving chase. On lap 4 the trio crashed in turn 1, resulting in a caution. Streck was done for the event, Olson and Nolan were sent to the tail of field. This handed the lead over to Devin Snellenberger. Snellenberger was immediately challenged by “Crazy” Chaz Van Ooyen. With 9 laps remaining Van Ooyen completed the pass. A caution with 5 laps remaining kept the pressure on Van Ooyen from Kyle Frederick and Rod Snellenberger. Van Ooyen was up for the challenge, earning his first trophy of the season and taking over the point lead. Rod Snellenberger was second, Frederick took third, Travis Van Straten placed fourth and Larry Karcz Jr. took fifth.
Jason Vandenberg passed Joel Jens on lap 5 for the lead in the IMCA Sport Mod feature. Cautions midway through the event kept the field close but it was Vandenberg going unchallenged to earn his first ever feature win at Outagamie Speedway. Jayden Schmidt had a solid run placing second, point leader Travis Hansen took third, Jens was fourth and Kyle Raddant took fifth.
Ryan Manthei raced to a fifth place finish earlier in the day at The Hill Raceway looked poised to earn the win in the Street Stocks. Manthei raced to lead on lap 7 of the Street Stock feature, wheeling around Dylan Stedjee. Mike Carter had other plans for Manthei, as he raced from deep in the field, catching Manthei and passing him with 6 laps remaining. The win was Carter’s second of the season, vaulting him into the point lead. Manthei had to settle for second, Stedjee was third, Matt Warner and Lexii Ashcraft completed the top five.
Brian Johnson looked to have the IMCA Sport Compact feature locked up until he was collected by a lap car with 5 laps remaining. This handed the lead over to point leader Mitch Mier. Mier lead the final laps to score another win. Trailing Mier at the line was brother Mike Mier, TJ Everard, Shaun Bangart and Nick Everard.
