Northland Super Stock Series Coming in July

Ashland, WI, May 28 — Three area race tracks will be offering WISSOTA-sanctioned Super Stocks a chance at over $20,000 in purse and bonuses when the third annual FastLane Motorsports Northland Super Stock Series takes place July 21-23.

The Series will be held at the AmsOil Speedway in Superior, WI; the ABC Raceway in Ashland, WI; and the Proctor (MN) Speedway, as part of each track’s traditional race-night program during that weekend. The feature races at each track during that weekend will pay $600 to win and at least $70 to start, and the overall three-race Series points champion will earn a minimum of $1,100.

“This area is a hotbed of talented WISSOTA Super Stock drivers, and they deserve a spotlight series to showcase their talents and reward them for that,” explained Proctor Speedway president Dennis McCauley, who is the Series organizer. “We have a ton of great drivers, a lot of generous sponsors, and three tracks that have been incredible in their efforts to work together to host this Series.

“This is only the third year for this Series, and already it has become very popular and highly anticipated throughout WISSOTA.”

The Series will kick off on Friday, July 21, at the big, wide four-tenths-mile AmsOil Speedway oval, where straightaway speeds nearing 100 mph are the norm for Super Stocks. The drivers will then continue to the three-eighths-mile ABC Raceway to compete on the lightning-quick red-clay oval on Saturday the 22nd. Finally, the weekend will conclude on the Proctor Speedway’s challenging three-eighths-mile oval on Sunday, July 23, where the Series will crown its third-ever champion.

The top ten in final Series points will receive checks out of the generous points fund, which as of the time of this writing is in excess of $12,000. But there are also many bonuses available to the competing drivers, such as the participant non-qualifier bonus, which will pay $125 to all drivers who compete in each of the three race events in the Series but do not make the top ten in points.

Another bonus that will be paid out will be $700 to the driver who can complete a “clean sweep” of all three features during the Series weekend. A “long tow” bonus of $100 will be paid to the drivers who haul the farthest to each of the Series events, and $100 “hard charger” bonuses will be paid out to the drivers who advance the farthest in each of the three Series features, as well as an additional $100 to the overall “hard charger” in the three features combined.

Two $250 bonuses will be paid out by random drawings from among those who finish the Series features at each of the three tracks, and two $50 bonuses will be awarded to the top two drivers not to make the feature at each track.

In addition, there will be special monies paid out in memory of a number of racers who have been lost to the local Super Stock racing community in recent years. These include bonuses to honor former racers Darryl Kovach ($112 to the 12th-place finisher in overall series points), Don Koivisto ($33 to the 33rd driver at each track to draw for his/her starting position), and PJ Beeksma ($37 to the 37th driver to draw at each track).

Also in memory of Koivisto, the feature at Ashland will be 33 laps in length. The features are expected to be 25 laps each at Superior and Proctor.

In the Series’ inaugural season, Curt Myers of Cameron not only won the points title, but he also claimed the three-feature sweep, for a weekend take of over $3,500. Myers also scored heat wins in each of the three stops on the 2015 tour, as he showed his dominance during that national championship-winning summer.

Last summer, Nick Oreskovich of Mason was on pace to match Myers’ feat of the year before, claiming heat and feature wins at Superior and Ashland. But the “Flyin’ Farmer” stumbled at Proctor’s finale with mechanical woes, leaving the door open for Scott Lawrence of Superior to grab the 2016 Series title.

The extensive list of contributors to the purse and bonuses for the third running of the Northland Super Stock Series includes title sponsor FastLane Motorsports & Custom Powdercoating, Affordable Chassis, American Family Insurance – Nick Korhonen Agency, AmericInn and Splashland, Ashland Family Restaurant, Ashland Honda-Toyota, Barrel Inn, Benna Ford, Bernick’s Distributing, Bill’s Diesel Repair, Bob’s South Tower Auto, Bullyan RV Center, Culver’s of Superior, Deltco Plastics, Dennis & Cathy Pattee, Duluth-Superior Trophy, Eder Brothers Auto Center, El Dorado Restaurants, Keyport Liquor, Kolar GM, Kom-On-Inn Bar, Lakes Gas and Stone Lake Oil, Len’s Auto Body, Lulich Implement, Midway Sewer & Plumbing, Mikkonen Racing, NAPA Auto Parts, North Country Towing, Northern Clearing Inc, Northern Fitness Solutions, Nummi Jewelers, Oliver’s Service Station, Omer Nelson Electric, Phillips Lanes and 10Pin Racing, Proctor Builders, Rick Gondik Law Offices, Rivord Auto Repair, RJ’s Sport & Cycle, R’s Auto Body, Smooch-a-Pooch, Snap Vinyl Signs, Three Eagles Smoke & Gift Shop, Tim’s Automotive Machine, United Truck Body, Village Lane, Von Holzen Chevrolet-Buick-GMC, and White River Ag Center

Updates for the Series will be made available soon on the three tracks’ respective websites and through various media sources.
