Moesch Masters Late Models
Shawano,WI,5/27/17—Josh Moesch got his start racing at the Shawano Speedway in 2009. He looked to be on his way to his first feature win 2011 before a broken belt ended his night after he had built up a near half lap lead over Terry Anvelink. This time though Moesch would not be denied as he held off ten-time track champion Ron Berna for his first career feature. Travis VanStraten won his third IMCA Stock car feature of the young season. Matt Oreskovich scored his second IMCA Modified win in a row. Lucas Lamberies won his second IMCA Sport Mod feature. While, Grant Kastning also won his second Mighty Four feature of the season.
It was all Josh Moesch in the Late Model feature. The Shawano hotshoe started on the pole of the race and had the car to beat. Moesch was able to fend off charges early on by Jared Siefert and later in the race by Ron Berna. A couple of late race cautions put Berna right on Moesch’s rear bumper on restarts, but Moesch never missed a beat. The win was the first career feature for Moesch who had come within a few laps of victory in the past. Moesch was followed to the checkered flag by Berna, Brett Swedberg, Troy Springborn, and Siefert.
In IMCA Modified action it was the “O” show for the second week in a row as Matt Oreskovich led all 20 laps of the feature for his second consecutive win. Mark Weisnicht passed Konnor Wilinski ate in the race for second. Wilinski finished third followed by Joel Seegert and Jerry Muenster.
Joe White, Ray DePew, and Luke Uttecht started off the IMCA Stock Car feature by going three wide for the lead with White holding the lead at the start finish line. Justin Jacobsen quickly moved to second before working past White for the lead on lap 4. Travis VanStraten and Dan Michonski soon crashed the party at the front of the field. As Jacobsen continued to lead, Travis VanStraten took to the outside of the leader and took the lead away on lap 9. VanStraten pulled away over the closing laps and won the race. Jacobsen remained in second, followed by Michonski, Gary Kasperek, and Mike Schmidt.
Kelsy Hayes snagged the lead on the opening lap of the IMCA Sport Mod feature. She was challenged early on by Jeff Schmuhl before tenth-place starting Lucas Lamberies raced his way to second near the mid-point of the race. After a lap 12 restart Lamberies got to the outside of Hayes. The pair ran side by side for a lap before Lamberies secured the top spot. Lamberies went on to win, Hayes finished second followed by Jordan Barkholtz, Schmuhl, and Jordan Bartz.
Grant Kastning took the lead at the start of the Mighty Four feature and led the whole way for the win. Calvin Stueck, Tanner Westphal, Brian Johnson, and Brad Wedde rounded out the top five.
Racing will continue next week Saturday with a 6:30 start time. It will be Hall of Fame night at track as Julie McDermid and Kevin Tober will be honored. More information can be found online at www.shawanocountyfair.net.
