Dancin Lance Virtuous in Victory

Shawano,WI,5/6/17—Dancin Lance Arneson proved what mom always said, “patience is a virtue”. Like a lion a stalking his prey, Arneson waited for the optimal moment to pounce, with a turn four pass for the lead on the final lap to win his first IMCA Modified feature of the year. Ron Berna (Late Model), Jordan Barkholtz (Sport Mod), and Grant Kastning (Mighty Four) each scored their first wins of the year also. While Travis VanStraten (IMCA Stock Car) won his second in a row.
Cole Spacek kicked off the Late Model feature grabbing the lead on lap one. Spacek, a rookie in the division, looked strong at the start of the race before a yellow flag flew on lap five. On the restart, Jared Siefert and Ron Berna applied pressure for the lead. Berna got underneath Spacek on lap seven and took the lead away. Brett Swedberg then worked past Spacek for second on the track. For the remainder of the race it was Berna in the lead with Swedberg within a few car lengths as the lead pair pulled away from the rest of the field. In the end, it was Berna holding on for the win with Swedberg second, Siefert third, Nick Anvelink fourth, and Tom Naeyaert rounding out the top five.
Pole-sitter Konnor Wilinski grabbed the lead on lap one of the IMCA Modified feature as his dad Jerry moved to second. Lance Arneson soon got past Jerry Wilinski to move to second. Konnor Wilinski and Lance Arneson ran away and hid from the rest of the pack as they eventually had a near straight away advantage over third place running Jerry Wilinski. As Konnor Wilinski continued to lead, Arneson stayed within a car length while sizing up the leader and patiently waiting to make a move. Lap after lap ticked away with Konnor Wilinski still leading. With two laps remaining Arneson took a peak to the inside of Wilinski. Wilinski shut the door though and continued to lead. Entering turn one on the final lap Arneson again had a nose to the inside of Wilinski but again Konnor Wilinski was faster out of turn two. Entering turn three though Arneson again got inside of Wilinski, and this time he would not be denied as the duo ran side by side through turns three and four. On the front stretch Arneson pulled ahead and beat Wilinski to the checkered flag. Jerry Wilinski finished third, Mark Weisnicht fourth, and Eddie Muenster grabbed fifth.
In IMCA Stock Car action Joe White led early on until Gary Kasperek took the top spot. Kasperek’s time at the front would be short-lived though as Justin Jacobsen took the lead on lap eight. On lap ten Trent Nolan emerged in second, with Travis VanStraten in third. On lap twelve VanStraten pulled alongside Jacobsen for the lead, but Jacobsen held him off. On lap fourteen VanStraten pulled to the outside of Jacobsen and this time would not be denied. VanStraten led the rest of the way for the win. Nolan came home second, Kasperek third, Brandon Czarapata fourth, and Jacobsen fifth.
Lap one of the IMCA Sport Mod feature saw Jeff Schmuhl take the lead over Bryce Clements. Jordan Barkholtz and Kyle Raddant quickly crashed the party at the front of the field also. Schmuhl continued to show the way though. Jordan Barkholtz got underneath Schmuhl on lap fifteen. As the two made contact, Barkholtz took over the lead. Barkholtz led the duration of the race to get the win. Wyatt Block finished in second, Jason Jach third, Sawyer Haese fourth, and Lucas Lamberies fifth.
Defending track champion Grant Kastning led every lap of the Mighty Four feature en route to victory. Mark Schoone, Calvin Stueck, Kasey Gross, and Brad Wedde followed Kastning to the checkered flag.
Forrest Kerneen and Dave Stoffer scored wins in Spectator Eliminator action.
Racing will continue next week Saturday with a 6:30 start time. Spectator Eliminators will again be part of the show. More information can be found online at www.shawanocountyfair.net.
