WILMOT, Wisc. — December 9, 2016 — The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series will visit Wilmot Raceway in Wisconsin again in 2017 on Saturday, July 29 for the Badger 40. The event will mark the series fifth visit by “The Greatest Show on Dirt” to the semi-banked, third-mile in Southeast Wisconsin.

David Gravel, who had a breakout season in 2016, winning nine races and finishing third in points, was victorious at Wilmot Raceway this past season. The win for Gravel was his second straight with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series at Wilmot, and he is undefeated in a pair of starts with the touring group at the track.

The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series raced for the first time at Wilmot Raceway in 2006, with Mark Dobmeier, who was filling in for Brooke Tatnell, scoring his first-career series win in one of the most thrilling events in series history. Dobmeier edged Jeremy Campbell and Daryn Pittman by mere inches in a thrilling last lap battle for the win. Each driver led at one point during the final lap, with Campbell ending up second and a spinning Pittman crossing the line third.

Pittman would make up for that near-miss when the series returned to Wilmot in 2008. He traded the lead a couple of times with Chad Kemenah in the first half of the race, before pacing the final 19 circuits to score the win.

The 2016 campaign was a historic one for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series as Donny Schatz won his third straight championship and eighth overall. In the process, the North Dakota native became the first driver in series history to win 20-plus A-Feature events in four consecutive seasons, finishing the year with 25 A-Feature triumphs.

Schatz continues to add to his ever-growing win total with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, which now stands at 229 A-Feature victories. Schatz is third on the all-time list, trailing only Hall of Famers Steve Kinser and Sammy Swindell.

A total of 17 drivers won A-Feature events with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series in 2016, including full-time series drivers: Daryn Pittman, who finished second in points, David Gravel, who was third in the standings, Brad Sweet, who was fourth in points, Joey Saldana, who was fifth in the final tally, Shane Stewart, who was just behind Saldana, along with Johnson, who was seventh in points, Logan Schuchart, who was eighth in the standings, Jason Sides, who was ninth and reigning Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner Greg Wilson.
