Ashland, WI — On Saturday night the ABC Raceway will add to its illustrious list of Hall of Fame inductees, while also raising money for a very worthy cause.
The program, to be presented by Zar’s Banquet Hall of Ashland, will include the introduction of the track’s Class of 2016 to the fans in attendance during intermission between heat race and feature action. In addition, Northern Clearing Inc of Ashland will help the Raceway in its “Race to a Cure for Cancer,” the track’s annual fundraiser for the Ashland-Bayfield County Chapters of the American Cancer Society.

The nine new Hall of Fame inductees will be honored with a private luncheon on Saturday afternoon at Zar’s, and then the formal presentations will be made at the track. Those being honored in the Driver category include Mel Ferguson, Jerry Hartman, Johnny Johnson and Ron Weinberger. In the Volunteers & Contributors category the inductees include Kurt Beeksma, Ray & Dawn Berglund, Don & Alice Hudack, and Rudy and Lorraine Marincel.
In addition, CG Bretting Mfg Co of Ashland will be feted for its contributions to the success of the venerable northern Wisconsin race facility.
The regular season of racing is down to its final three scheduled nights, and drivers will be going all-out in order to earn their best possible finishing positions in the 2016 divisional championship standings.
In the WISSOTA Modified division, Neil Balduc of Bessemer, MI, is in position to win his first-ever track title, but two multi-time Mod champs – Ashland’s Steve Stuart and 2015 champ Al Uotinen of Superior – are well within reach of the leader.
The WISSOTA Super Stock points chase is also a matter of a potential first-time champ being chased by a many-time trophy winner. Mason’s Nick Oreskovich will spend the next three race nights trying to maintain his lead over Scott Lawrence of Superior, who has won the Super Stock title eleven times in Ashland.
Paul Suzik of Ironwood, MI, is trying to defend his 2015 track title in the WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, but a fierce field of challengers, led by Ashland pilots Tanner Hicks and Ryan Adamzak, is right on his tail in the standings.
Ashland’s Tiffany Hudack seems to have things well in hand atop the ABC Six-Cylinder points, although she can’t afford to let up with Scott Ovaska of Marengo and Ashland’s Forrest Schultz still trying to track her down.
Another possible first-time champ, Justin Weinberger of Park Falls, the grandson of new Hall of Famer Ron, still needs to keep the likes of Brandle Pupp of Ashland and Iron River’s Andrew Hanson behind him for three more Saturday nights.
The Raceway’s live pre-race radio program, “Z-93 Race Night,” will air Saturday on WBSZ, 93.3 FM, and online at www.wbszfm.com, from 4:30-6 pm with up-to-date track news and weather information. Adult tickets are just $11 each, and kids ages 12 and under are admitted free with a paid adult admission.
