Close Finishes the Name of the Game at 141 Speedway
on August 7, 2016 at 10:31 am(Francis Creek, WI)- Two last lap finishes highlighted the Feature events at 141 Speedway on Saturday Night. A rookie won his first ever Feature over one of Wisconsin’s most decorated drivers. The other three divisions had the leader’s bumper hot from the pressure from their competitors for the big win. 129 cars took to the 1/3 mile to do battle but only six could call themselves Feature winners on this night.
Josh Lambert started racing four years ago with a car that they found because it looked like it would be fun. He took his time in the IMCA Sportmod’s and collected his bumps and bruises. Last season, he went on a rampage of Feature wins. In 2016, the jump to the big boys was made. Three months later, he can add his name to the storied list of IMCA Modified Feature winners.
Lambert started on the outside pole of the Main Event and took his talents to the outside of the speedway. R.M. VanPay came along for the ride as the two set on a collision course for the lead. VanPay trailed Lambert around the 1/3 and would dabble down low to try and make the pass repeatedly. The lone caution on lap 13 would allow VanPay to regather his plans. On the restart, VanPay shot low and made his racer stick. He came off turn two giving Lambert just enough room to get the lead back along the wall. Lambert would take charge of the race but not without won last advance from VanPay on the final lap. VanPay shot low in turn one but the rookie would not be denied and pulled VanPay on the final lap. Lambert picked up the win right in front of VanPay. Johnny Whitman charged from his 10th starting spot to pick up third. Randy Markwardt Jr won the battle for fourth over Eric Scribner.
Chase Parker went from third to first on the opening lap of the IMCA Stockcar Feature. Bret Koehler came calling on lap three and took the top spot from Parker. Koehler would lead until breaking going down the back stretch. He took a hard hit while his car sat idle and the red flag flew. The driver was good but the racecar was done for the night. Aaron Stolp and Dave Bouche came from eighth and ninth to second and third by the restart on lap four. The duo took the top spots on lap four after a three wide pass on Chase Parker. What followed was an IMCA Stockcar classic. Dave Bouche ran the bottom of the track and Aaron Stolp garnered the top of the Speedway. The duo never touched and exchanged the lead multiple times as they worked through lapped traffic. Bouche stayed true to the bottom and grabbed the lead with a couple to go. Stolp found better speed along the wall as they drag raced on the final lap, still exchanging the top spot. Off the final corner, Stolp came roaring passed Bouche to take home his second win. Parker finished third in front of Larry Karcz Jr and Jerry Leary.
Rearend issues that plagued Ryan Lemieux are ancient history. Ryan Lemieux has been the top racer as far as IMCA Sportmod Feature wins go at 141 Speedway. Lemieux has now won three of the last four. Lemieux used a restart on the first lap and flew from fifth to first on the top of the speedway. Point leader, Travis Arenz had the same idea and came to the bumper of Lemieux. The duo would pull away from the division until two cautions mid-race brought everyone together. Lemieux would be too strong for Arenz on this night. Arenz tried every lane he could come up with but Lemieux would make his third victory lane trip of the season. Arenz picked up one point in the standings as Cody Schroeder finished third. Jacob Zellner finished fourth with Race VanPay fifth.
Shane Long sat atop the results of the Grand National Feature for the first two laps. Don Sorce Jr came through the field and grabbed p1 on lap three. Sorce would have a 10 car length lead by halfway. Steven and Kodi Wirtz would get after it for second with Steven finally grabbing second for good with five laps remaining. Sorce rolled to his first win of the season in a limited schedule. Steven beat cousin Kodi to the finish line for second. Logan Rhode around Arianna Beattie late to finish fourth.
.0051 was the margin of victory in the Street Stock Feature. One lap was led by the race winner and it was the most important Paul Diefenthaler needed literally every inch of the speedway to track down Andy Fuhrmann for the race lead and pass. Jordan Parma ran up front early with a pack of six cars right behind. Allen Dillon took control for two laps. Fuhrmann and Diefenthaler took the top two spots with Fuhrmann getting to the lead first and putting a little distance on Diefenthaler. Diefenthaler used multiple grooves to catch Fuhrmann on the white flag lap. Diefenthaler got a great run down the back stretch to get closer to Fuhrmann. Coming out of the final turn, Fuhrmann had the lead but Diefenthaler came along the wall and found the bite he needed to win by mere inches for his eighth win. Fuhrmann ran a great race to finish second. Clint Evans finished third. Parma had a season best fourth place finish in front of Allen Dillon.
Shaun Bangart charged from his 16th starting position to try to run down leader Mitch Meier. Meier was too strong late to pick up the IMC A Sport Compact win. Bangart picked up fourteen spots to finish second. Point leader, Brody Rivest finished third. Brian Johnson and Tony Fletcher finished fourth and fifth.
