Rice Lake WI – While the Rice Lake Speedway continues with their regular Saturday night racing programs, the management and drivers are already preparing for two huge upcoming events. Over a four day period over the end of July and extending into the first week of August, two of the biggest events of the racing season will come back to back to the third mile dirt oval on Rice Lake’s north side.
On Saturday, July 30th, the One Main Financial WISSOTA Late Model Challenge Series comes to the speedway and then on the following Tuesday, August 2nd, the nationally known Street Stock “Little Dream” race will be the featured attraction at the speedway.

The Late Models have not raced at the Rice Lake Speedway since the 2012 season and anticipation is building for the return of them, particularly in such a meaningful event as a part of the Challenge Series. With one event slated before the Rice Lake weekend race, Jeff Provinzino of Hibbing MN is the current series point leader. With drivers like Jason Krohn, Ricky Weiss, Curt Gelling, Lance Matthees, Jeff Wildung, A.J. Diemel and Chad Becker currently in the top ten in points, the very best drivers from a five state area are expected to be on hand in Rice Lake on July 30th.
Area drivers who have some experience racing at Rice Lake such as John Kaanta, Jake Redetzke, Steve Laursen and Chad Mahder are expected to provide a stiff challenge to the traveling stars.
The Rice Lake event is a part of a huge, three night racing weekend for the Challenge Series with “Fender Friday” scheduled on July 29th at the Proctor Speedway, followed by the Rice Lake event on Saturday and the weekend will conclude on Sunday, July 31st with the annual “Twin 25’s” at the AMSOIL Speedway in Superior WI. With three events scheduled in such a close proximity of each other and several other tracks that run Late Models taking that weekend off, a powerhouse field of cars in expected including some surprise entrants.
As a bonus to the race fans, along with the Late Models on July 30th, a full program of racing will also take place in the five classes that normally race in Rice Lake including sanctioned Modifieds, Super Stocks, Midwest Modifieds and Street Stocks along with the Rice Lake Pure Stocks. Extra drivers in these divisions are also expected on that night.
Part two of the Rice Lake spectacular takes place on Tuesday, August 2nd with the twenty first annual running of the Street Stock “Little Dream” race. This race has reached national attention for several reasons, none the least of which is the huge amount that this race pays the winner along with the unique way that the purse is raised.
Last year local racer Jimmy Randall went home with over fourteen thousand dollars for his win in the “Little Dream”, an astronomical amount of money for drivers used to running for around two hundred bucks to win on a normal night. Over sixty drivers from five states and two Canadian provinces were on hand for last year’s event and there is no reason to believe there will be any less this year. This race has managed to raise the ante each year and is twenty thousand dollars out of the question for 2016?
The unique manner in which the purse is raised has been a special thing since the race was first conceived. Fans and businesses contribute cash to various finishing positions on top of the guaranteed purse provided by the track and these people have been instrumental in making this race as special as it is.
Money is contributed to the winner of course, but also to a number of other finishing positions and in often unique ways. Such things as extra cash for the last place finisher, the first flat tire, the first Ford finisher etc. are a huge part of the race and only the imagination limits the ways in which the cash is distributed. Part of the enjoyment of the evening is following along with the announcements of the cash offered, led by the guest announcer of the evening, Scott Tiefs.
Pre entry for this event is now open. Pre entries should be mailed to either the Rice Lake Speedway or Adams-Hansen Inc. at Box 303 in Cameron WI 54822. The pre entry of $100 guarantees that any driver making the main event will be guaranteed $300 starting money. Pre entry ends on July 31st. Any questions about the pre entry should be directed to Dave Adams at 715-205-2861 or to F.Y.E. Motorsports who will be administering this racing program.
Along with the Street Stocks, a full program of Modified racing will be held on August 2nd with extra money on the line for the Modifieds also.
Draw cutoff for both of these events will be 6:30 pm with racing to follow.
In a related announcement, because the speedway will be hosting these two huge events on a back to back basis, track management had decided that there will be no racing at the speedway on Saturday, August 6th. The bike races scheduled for that night will be rescheduled to another date.
